I have noticed a small amount of oil coming from high on the engine. It appears to be from the valve covers. I also noticed that the rear upper engine mount appears to have been taken off or loosened at some point. I bought this bike used so I don't know the history. I do know that it has a Victory Performance Air Filter and after market exhaust. My first question is, how hard is it to pull of the valve covers and install new gaskets, second question is while I am in there, is there an easy way to tell if there are different cams than stockers? I know the bike runs really strong, but I just wonder why the mount has been loose or off and why I would get an oil leak up there. I bought the bike with only 5600 miles on her, so I find it hard to believe that there were engine troubles. Any thoughts or comments?

Your bike got cammed.  Here are a couple of picks I took from when mine were done.  The first pic shows where to jack up the frame after it is unbolted (notice the position of the prybar).  The second pic shows how to keep it jacked up while you reseal the gasket.  Hope these help.

Extended warrenty yes. But I don't know if they would cover a leak if the work was not done at a dealer. I am sure they will be able to tell that the mount was loosened. I may just let them do it anyhow so if it leaks again I may get a break on the repair.

I would take it to a dealer in the long run you will be way a head. Ask them to check every thing.
You don't say what year you have so ask if it has all or any up dates. Next time you post please tell us you have a vision so we don't guess wrong on a problem.
Good Luck

I would check to see if the bolts on the valve cover are tight, first.

Lloyd's guys were using a special wrench from Snap-On with a 90 degree bend in it and a twist handle that rotated the socket to get to some of the valve cover bolts.  Snug down what you can but the dealer is probably the best call at this point.

Handyhiker, I seem to have a similar leak coming from the from the area of the front valve cover near the injector. The mechanic at the dealership replaced the gasket. It was a little tedious as there was very little room to get on the bolts but the cover will come off. It leaks just enough to run to the front of the engine and drip onto the plastic. And yes it is leaking again so I am taking it back this week. It's an 09 Vision with 9900 miles.

I am going to take her to the dealer first part of the next week. I have a few other issues that are a warrenty deal so they can do it all at once. I just wanted to see if the cams were stockers or not, that is why I thought of doing the valve covers myself.
