Looking for a new rainsuit, I have a nice one piece Harley rainsuit but it's a big pain putting it on on the side of the road. Looking for a 2 piece with tall back and front with suspenders on the pants. Would like the top to have a hood to keep water from running down the back, looking to spend around $200.00 or so.

I have the 2 piece Arlen Ness rainsuit.  I held off on recommending it because it has regular pants on the bottom and not full bibs like you want.  Whatever you find, make sure the lower legs have Nomex or some kind of heat shield material.  (This is where the cheap stuff becomes one use only.)  The Ness jacket has a built in hood.  I have been bone dry in the Ness suit.  Comfy collar, tight wrist closures, obviously well thought out and made.  Except for not being bibs, I think you'd really like it.  I got mine in '08 through my dealer.  Not sure what's out there now.

You can check out this site: http://www.froggtoggsraingear.com/EliteHwy.shtm

The Gold Wingers in my area say they are the bomb. Much better than the original paper looking suit.

My wife's frogg toggs...not so great. She gets wet & I don't in my old school hotter-than-awe-get-out rubberized rain gear (Hein Gericke). So I tried them too, in a slight rain, I was wet all over. Less than impressed.

That said, I am sold on the riding jacket that is designed to also be waterproof! Now when it rains I just dawn the pants and that's it. Currently I have a Hi-Vis Hein Gericke touring jacket that is all weather. It has been plenty warm through the winter cold, remove the liner open the vents and it even breaths nicely for summer riding. And yes, I have been dumped on a few times already this spring (hard rain)...Dry as a bone.
I know there are other great brands of ridng coats that are waterproof. I have seriously considered Motoport or Firstgear as well.

Sorry, cant help unless you're interested in a review of 19th century waxed cotton technology.
Barbour and Belstaff still make them and would like you to think that they were spun from gold based on the prices that they are asking.

ADVANTAGES
Great big waterproof pockets that hold all kinds of stuff.
Lots of belts, snaps, zippers, and buckles make them fit just right.
Cant burn them on a hot muffler, even if you try.
The don't flap in the wind like a plastic garbage bag.
They shed water and road grime like a duck. Wipe em with a damp cloth and you're good to go.
Jacket is stylin' even when it is not raining, think Steve McQueen.
Wearing the complete suit makes you look like you might have just finished sneaking an East German spy through the Berlin Wall.

They are IN-DE-STRUCTABLE!

DISADVANTAGES
Expensive compared to modern alternatives.
Heavy
Dont breath well, so they have these little vents to keep you from stewing in your own juices.
They smell vaguely musty even when dry, like a cross between a wet dog and an old hayloft.
They're relatively bulky so they don't pack that well.
Lots of buckles, snaps, belts and zippers are involved in getting out of the damn things.
Wife wont let you bring them in the house or pack them in the same saddlebag as her stuff once she gets a whiff.
It is grounds for divorce in most states if you ever re-wax and place in the clothes dryer to set the wax.

They are IN-DE-STRUCTABLE!

Mine are now 40 years old and they still work as well as when new, so I hate to buy something more practical. For some strange reason, lately the jacket seems to be tighter than it used to be. I guess it's a good thing that I cant find the snap in quilted liner any more or I wouldn't be able to zip it up.

But hey, if any of you guys find the ideal raingear let me know, if this jacket gets any smaller I may have to modernize.

Did someone mention Frogg Toggs?

Love those things. The wife and I vacuum seal each set. It's amazing how little space they take up.

TP - I need to look into the waxed cotton, I knew they existed but haven't heard or seen them mentioned in a very long time. Since getting the Vision I've only worn the togg bottoms under my chaps and I just wear my leathers in the pouring rain, more than once. I need to treat the leather to repel better because I've had to live with soaking wet leather for up to a week after a good soaking.

Just bought a new rain suit my old suit was alegedly 3 x but It felt like a stright jacket Just bought a new 4X suit from Fieldsheer. It is not really 4X because if it were it would fit over my leather jacket. But it is large enough to fit over my fleece and still not constrict me like my previous set.
http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/1/41/1/0/0/DEPARTMENT/Street...
Is where I picked up a two piece suit delivered for $50.00 it was on close out.
The suit has a nylon feel as oposed to the plastic feel of some PVC suits it has a mesh lining and good pockets I was lucky they had a 4X in Black/silver, matches Deercrusher.

I am thinking of hanging up my leather and buying a riding coat with armor and removable linings.
Leather has so many pluses but after getting soaked on I95 I am thinking waterproof might be nice

Ordered FroggToggs "Road Toads Rain Suit" from one company and they failed to deliver.
They credited my credit card so I tried a new company who had free delivery at $59.99 a set.

I got the firstgear rain gear two piece, comes up high in the back for the pants, with the nomex on the bottom. Feels like a windbreaker and works well to really use even when its cold out. I used it for a lot of cold days with light gear underneath. Has all the features you were looking at. I have had it around 2+ years and still works good. Been in pouring rain, with a half helmet, the front down your chin gets wet. Full face, dry as a cracker. Around 150 I believe. let me know if you want any more info. Best I ever had.

Frogg Toggs are OK in a weekend emergency situation but they are not touring grade gear in my opinion. When touring I wear a Olympia AST jacket and if the weathers questionable I'll add my Ranger pants, just the outer shell. I'm done with putting on rain gear when it looks like your gonna get wet and then the sun come out and your overheated or hopping around trying to put gear on after your already wet, nowI i just zip up a vent and keep right on enjoying the ride 'cause I'm already waterproof-Brian

If you are riding a Vision or a V-Twin, make sure the pants will not melt !!!

I bought a set of Frog Toggs and the pants disintegrated on the cylinder head within a couple of miles while riding in the rain.  It was a mess to clean off the bike.

On the up side, the brick and mortar motorcycle store gave me a full refund on the melted Frog Toggs.

I currently have a pair of Colorado Chaps (made in USA) that is made of denier nylon with Kevlar inner seams that will not melt.  They are light weight, fold down small and have armor and thermal options (and black reflective stripes).  Only issue with chaps is that they don't keep your crotch and butt dry.

Good luck with your shopping.

I bought a set of Columbia rain gear on sale at Bass Pro a couple of years ago. If you buy the bib overalls and jacket it will hit you for the full $200 if you don't catch it on sale. I got mine while it was on sale and it was about $140, but these will definitely keep you dry. The only negative about these are that they are very warm in the summertime even for not being the insulated version. I love them personally as I'm cold-natured anyway.

Update, just emailed Frogg Toggs.  They responded that none of their rain suits / pants are heat resistant

.FWIW, they said they have a Frogg Legs and patch that is heat resistant.

You can make your FroggToggs melt proof-pick up and ironing board cover and cut out pieces to fit the inside of the pant legs that might come in contact with the pipes and attach with some liquid stitch to maintain a water proof seal-easy fix. Brain

I ordered two sets of Froggtoggs ($59.99 each set) on Tuesday the 22 of March.
Delivered Friday the 25.
Haven't as yet used them but they seem to be fairly well made.
Wife and I did try them on and they aren't ugly.
There is a bag that comes with them to contain them.
It is about the size of a football once you stuff the outfit into it.

I use leather. The cows are outside thier whole lives. Seriously, I keep my leather jacket and leather riding pants well oiled with mink oil and stay mostly dry. I can't remember the brand name of the pants, but the cover like pants do and go on over your clothes and have legs like chaps. easy on easy off. And I don't have to pack more stuff.

I'm probably the only one that is doing so, but I've been using the same Sterns rain suit for at least 8 years. Hours of time spent in the rain fishing, hunting, and on the bike. The first seepage I've had was on my last rainy ride. A seem in the pants needed a touch of Goop.

That's it, mink oil. I was going to scotchguard...***annngk***. I'm on my way to the mink farm to squeeze a few drops out...

I need leather pants too, still usin' chaps, I just don't know why unless I'm going to join village people biker gang...

though I will admit, chaps are nice on the opposite gender... I'm just saying...

Tourmaster Sentinel jacket and pants. Stayed perfectly dry everytime I've used them and they also have the option of getting the Nomex on the inside of the pant leg to resist melting on the pipes/engine.

FROGG TOGGS! Absolutely the best, lightest most comfy I have ever worn. And I have the original and have never gotten wet. I live in FL so it gets hot here and then rains for an hour. with the ForggToggs I am cool as a cucumber. Not so with other heavy, non-breathable suits.

Another subject: I just got what I feel are the best "over shoes" for rain prtection. Neos rain boots slide right over your regular riding boots, no hastle, they are 15" tall with adjustment straps over the top of your foot and at the top of the calf. You could walk down a creek with these things on an not get wet feet.............
