Been taking a look at speakers and was wondering about installing 5.25" woofers in the rear locations. I've found a couple that according to the provided dimensions should fit.

I know that in order to get the most bass response you need a speaker box that is engineered/designed with proper dimensions and ports and such. But does this apply to small woofers?

Or would I be better off just installing a good set of 2-ways or 3-ways in the rear?

Either way an Alpine KTP-445 would be used for power.

I'd go with the 2/3 ways. I've got a couple of 5" woofers in the rear. The visions rear speaker enclusres are not sealed so you don't get very deep bass. I had planned to try dynamating around the speakers to seal them but I need to consider water drainage issues. I can't hear the rear speakers over 45 mph unless I really crank it up. My wife hasn't complained. It's true that you can't hear bass freq. at higher speeds.

i seriously doubt you will tell any Real difference with a woofer in the rear.. there are many reasons why, some of the ones i can think of real quick are. 1) power, bass requires alot more power. 2) even in a enclosure the speaker is exposed and will have very bad bass sound/response unlike in a car where the car itself acts a 2nd enclosure.

One of my rear speakers just blew out and this looks like the perfect replacement.

I would just go with a good set of 2 ways. The 445 will give you more bass and crisper highs - however it will not increase your volume.

I have two Visions that I have been experimenting with...
One is just the stock radio/amp and the Kicker PS5250 4 ohm speakers. Great improvement over the stock speakers - more bass better highs.
The other has currently has the Alpine KTP-445 in it and Infinity 5032CF That sounds ok. I was running a set of Polk Audio DXi 525 that sound better (Great bass and really clear highs) but the volume was not as loud.

For my next round I will be re-installing the Polk's and a Rockford Fosgate amp... If the speakers don't stand up to the amp then I will be installing a set of Alpine SPR-50's....
