I don't know if anybody is interested, but I installed a Passport SRX on my bike last week and tested it over the weekend and it works wonderfully. I have one of these systems on my car and not only does it pick up radar really well, but it detects and jams lidar. The Passport SRX info is here: http://www.escortradar.com/srx.htm. There are cheaper systems that do the same thing, but I just happen to have this one tucked away. I don't see how to attach a picture here so I'll describe it. The front shifter (lidar detector/jammer) is located directly under the HID light. Cops will normally aim lidar at the headlight since that's the most reflective thing on the front of the bike or car so the shifter is right by the light. Next to the shifter I have the radar detector mounted. The wiring goes up and behind the brushed aluminium cover and all the components fit nicely in there. The display unit is mounted under the dash just above the digital gauges and between the speedometer and RPM gauge. It looks great, actually, and is hardly noticable on the front of the bike. Now, I just need to figure out how to run the audio output into the Vision audio system. The sound is is plenty loud, but I have to strain to hear it when doing 90+ and listening to Ozzy when the volume is on 20. So, wiring into the audio system would be best but I don't know which wire to cut into or even if it's possible.

Just fyi...Radar is not only shot at the front of the bike more times than not cops shoot at the rear end when you go by so watch your back..

Radar bounces around so much that it can be detected long before it can be used against me. If he hits a car in front of me, it will bounce back to my detector. There's no need for a rear radar detector. The biggest danger with radar is driving fast on a road with no traffic in sight. The cop just waits until you're close and pulls the trigger. You need those other targets out there. Lidar is a bit different. In 2 years of using lidar, I've never been hit from behind one time. Still, my system has rear shifters for such a thing but I've not put it on yet. Lidar is a line of sight detector and is aimed at a specific vehicle. It's about a 3 foot wide beam at 1000 feet and if you don't jam it you're caught instantly. Laser detectors don't work except to tell you your speed was just realized by a cop. Often, the laser detector won't even go off if the cop is a good aim. Having the shifters near the shiney parts like the headlight will both detect and jam lidar.

Well, it was off my car. CarToy (%#@#!), don't get me started, messed up my old one. I rewired it to make it work and then put it on my bike. It cost $1600 to install into my car and then I had to do it again. So, I spent $3200 for a radar detector for my car but at least I got to use the old one for my bike. But, believe me, the system saved me more than $3200 so far...

You can get the SR7 cheaper than the SRX and they're the same thing. You can also get just the laser shifters (SR3) and add them to an existing radar detector. See here: http://www.escortradar.com/custom-installed.htm. If you have laser in your area, this system is just hard to beat. eBay has the ZR3 pretty cheap and from time to time the SR7 and SRX systems show up. I just checked eBay and the SRX system is on there for a mere $700. See here: http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&dfsp=32&from=R40&satitle=passport+srx&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC6&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&sadis=200&fpos=ZIP%2FPostal&sabfmts=1&saobfmts=insif&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&fsop=32&fsoo=2.

Update on Passport SRX install.

Craig and I figured out a couple of things regarding the GPS cable. Two of the wires are currently being used to power my Zumo 550. The other 2 wires are for audio. So, we tested my Passport SRX output to the GPS audio and found it works great. When the radar detector goes off, music is muted and the radar beeps come through loudly. When the radar detector stops beeping, the music unmutes as if by magic. It couldn't work any better.

To go one step further, we tied the wire to the GPS. Voice prompts work great. So, we decided to see about the phone. Craig called my phone which was connected via bluetooth to the Zumo and I answered the call via the GPS and could hear him talking just fine. We are now on a mission to figur out which wire we can connect the mic input to for the GPS. Now we know we can get the phone to work and integrated with the bike's systems rather than some other solution tacked on to it.

I'll post an update when we have something...
