Subject: 2009 Goldwing GL-2000

Honda Motor Company today announced its plans for the new 2009 GL-2000 Goldwing touring bike. The new Goldwing will replace the industry-leading GL-1800 Goldwing which went into production in 2001.

The 2009 GL-2000 Goldwing will feature a larger 2.0 litre (2000 cc) 6-cylinder engine matched to a new 6-speed transmission. Honda claims the new engine will produce 165 horsepower and 157 foot pounds of torque. "This new powerplant and transmission should provide the kind of power and torque Goldwing owners have come to expect" a company official says. With the new 6-speed transmission, the 2.0 liter engine turns only 2,500 rpm at 70 miles per hour.

The new Goldwing will increase the safety of its riders with standard ABS brakes on all 2009 models. A rider airbag is also available as an option on the level 4 model.

Sounds like they did a lot of nice upgrades.  I wonder if they addressed the limited driver leg position issues?

Victory needs to get that 116 cu in kit out ASAP !!!

before anyone really believes, this is GoldWingers annual April Fools. They really won't announce what they'll have for 2009 until much later.

Here's what I found with a little searching http://www.gl1800riders.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=96011

Looks like someone was doing a little dreaming.

That's a good hoax...especially considering they are closing the Ohio plant. But, when they get geared up in Japan, I think we can expect a new, built from the ground up, Goldwing. I had a 1998 GW and loved it...it's a great bike for the highway, but not ideal for around town. I can only predict they will go with a removable trunk and make it a convertible...like the Vision. Honda has always been on the cutting edge on motorcycle electronics, so it will interesting to see what they come up with in 2010. Until then, we have our bikes.

Also, it's been a while since Kawasaki updated the Vulcan platform. I can only assume that will be coming soon as well.

If Polaris was smart they would do Like HD and not change a thing on the Vision untill they had all the first generation issues resolved...cosmetic & and electricial..perfect this design and then move on and also make some of the improvements a retrofit for us 2008 owners...

The 2009 GW may be a hoax, but check out Triumphs new inline tripple. 2300 cc. More power than you can use.
The only drawback, theyre british built. If theyre built anything like their cars, I see a lot of walking in an owners future.

I got to dreaming and I thought I would like one. They had a test ride at the local dealer, Polaris outlet, no less. They sell all Polaris stuff, and Triumphs, no Victory's go figure. But anyway I got to look at them and got a brochure. They would be a rough one to ride, like a wing. Tall in the saddle, and wide, plus that 2300 is govern back so you won't throw you're pillion off. I quickly woke up and didn't even bother with a test ride, though it would been fun just to try. I merrily left the way I came, in a Vision.

I hear what your saying. Its an interesting concep, I like the way they handled the torque issue by reversing the rotation of the drivetrain against the motor. I would like to try one. As far as buying?
For the same reason I stay away from sport bikes, having that much power, it would be hard to keep from using it and I would probably end up killing myself. And that would really PO my wife.

Northwest of you

I rode a new GW last weekend, just to have an experience of what else is out there.

I was very impressed with everything, except the "seat", very cramped and no way to move around. Once you are in that position, you will be there for your whole ride.

The Vision is WAY more comfortable. I felt like I had gotten into a "stretch limo" when I got back on it.

Oh, the other thing, while the GW was plenty powerful and fast, I felt like I ran out of gears way too soon.

I was glad I took the test ride, but, happier that I own a Vision.

If Honda does do something with the Wing, If they don't address the riding postion, it won't matter.

nowor218, My Dad (75!) just bought a new 2008 'wing, and he and I have swapped bikes back and forth. I noticed too, that the seat position is uncomfy for me. I also noticed the "running out of gears too soon" issue as well. It sure could use another gear! It is a very nice bike, but the GPS is hard to program, and cannot access many features when it is in gear. All my Dad had to say after riding my Vision was "THAT thing is ALL bike!"----Metalguy

Well, this sealed it for my hubby. His '06 just turned 50,000 miles. He'll trade it in on an '09. (He's been jealous of the electric windshield ever since I got my ST1300. When Victory put it on the Vision and Honda still hadn't put one of the Wing, he was fit to be tied!)
