Info from theVMC if you are not a member and the link doesn't take you there.

A member of our club, Colin "Cinders" MacDairmand, was severely injured yesterday when a SUV turned in front of him. His 2008 Victory Vision burst into flames. Colin was airlifted to a burn center in Phoenix where he has life threatening injuries. Please include him in your prayers.

All hopes for a speedy recovery. May the trauma docs have steady hands and the burn ward, a gentle touch.

Prayers to Colin, his family, and caregivers.

I spent 6 years working in accident investigation and only recall one MC accident that resulted in a fire. Pretty disturbing thoughts of what Colin experienced and what may have caused it.

Frankly, I have to admit to being freaked out by the images left in my head by the photo of this wreck.

As a life long motorcyclist I have apparently become a little blase in my response to stories of accidents, and injuries. I've always viewed accidents as one of those "comes with the territory" things; but, for me, this incident crosses into the realm of a previously unimaginable horror that in all honesty, I haven't yet finished processing.

I'm really glad that the wife wasn't looking over my shoulder when I opened that post..............

My thoughts are with the rider and his family. If I was a prayerful guy they would have those too. Please keep us informed.

Passing along from theVMC.

Sorry to say I have no new info. He is in a medically induced coma at the Maricopa County Burn Unit and is surronded by family. I do know that in addition to his severe burns he also suffered a broken pelvis. He was also concious when they air lifted him to Phoenix. Our club will do whatever it takes to help Colin. Financially Colin was always strapped for cash so I expect once we know more about his recovery, an account will be set up in his name to help him out. It is possible that we may divert some charity monies from the 2011 National Meet to help out one of our own. It's just too early to say. Thanks to everyone for the prayers and support.

I spent about a month in a Chemically induced coma after my plane crash in 1986 it is a vey sureal sensation there will be periods of time where he will hear the people in the room. It is very confusing because you can not react, plus the line between reality and dreaming gets blurry. Playing his Ipod or favorite TV shows will help him rest and recover. That and positive comments from friends and family.

Update from the VMC:

This just in from Colin's family

Friends and Family,

As many of you know our Dad, Colin MacDiarmid, was involved in a motorcycle crash on Wednesday, April 27th. He is in critical condition at the burn unit at Maricopa County Medical Center in Phoenix and will be there for quite some time. He suffered 3rd degree burns over 60% of his body, a fractured pelvis, collarbone and fractures in both wrists. The burns are by far the biggest concern. He has undergone two surgeries to remove burnt tissue and to prepare for eventual skin grafts. Because he is under heavy sedation, he is on a ventilator and is expected to remain that way for several weeks.

Due to the severity of his injuries and because he is in the ICU, he can receive no flowers, cards, etc. We discussed visitors with the staff at the burn unit, and have decided to keep the number of visitors to a minimum. As his recovery progresses, we will encourage you all to visit? we know he would love to see you.

Dad has many great friends, so it has been difficult keeping everyone informed. As a result, we created a website to allow you to check on his status. His condition isn?t expected to change quickly because of the slow recovery process associated with burns. We will let you know as things change, and especially when he can start receiving a higher number of visitors. The website address is:

www.macdiarmid.us

Many of you have asked what, if anything, you can do to help. The MMA is planning a blood drive and potentially a group ride in his honor. As we learn more, we will let you know. There have also been questions about donating money to support Dad during his recovery. We established a bank account in his name or you may choose to donate via his Paypal account. Information on how to do this is here:

www.macdiarmid.us/donate

We also established a new email account for him that we ask you to use moving forward. His old email account will be closed in the next couple weeks. Please use ccmacdiarmid@yahoo.com to email Dad in the future. We will monitor this account, but please understand if we are unable to respond to every email. If you would like for us to personally deliver a message to him, we are more than happy to read any emails to him that you send ? just let us know.

We can not thank you enough for the tremendous support you have shown Dad this past week. It is comforting to know he has all of you supporting him and keeping him close in your thoughts and prayers. He will need this to help him through the next several months.

Colin and Ian

Thanks Capt for keeping everyone updated. Four of us in the Prescott Victory Riders rode to Phoenix yesterday to see Colin at the Maricopa County Burn Center. We met his twin sons and a daughter-in-law and they are holding up well, considering. We actually got to go in see Colin, one at a time, and all we could see was his eyes and that was enough. It was heartbreaking to see a friend and one of my club members in such bad shape. Our club is putting on the VMC National Meet in August and we decided to donate charity money to Colin. People here are rallying and the MMHA is putting on a ride for him. The American Cancer Society's local chapter is having a Poker Night at my house in June with proceeds going to Colin.

I want to thank everyone for their prayers and thoughts and I did pass that on to Colin in hopes that he could hear me and be assured people are pulling for him.

As a Vision rider I have real concerns over the safety of this bike. I know bikes crash and people get hurt. I've got the broken bones to prove that. What I don't expect is a bike to actually explode on impact. Colin would be sitting up talking to us if his Vision did not blow up on impact. I think Victory needs to address this matter and they have been notified by a VMC member about this crash. I intend to also send them a photo and give them my opinion as to why the Vision blew up. My theory is simply that the gas tank design is such that on a hard impact the tank will rupture and the battery is in the front of the engine under the tank. On impact the tank ruptures gas over a sparking battery and the result is immediate combustion. Colin was tossed off the bike but he was engulfed in flames.

Thank-you for the update. That is just so sad. To have to fight for 3 months with that kind of burn damage just to finally loose the battle. I have no doubt he will pass 'go' are go right to the promise land. R.I.P.

May he rest in peace and his family find the strength to deal with their loss.

Must add that the number of similar notifications it is very disturbing. I was beginning to feel like the Vision presented such a large image that it really was less likely that someone would miss seeing it. Never let your guard down.
