http://www.bigfrickinadventures.com
I have laughed myself sick reading his stories a couple of times and by pure chance found out today that he has published his adventures in book form and that it is available on Amazon.

Ordered mine today, and am looking forward to a few laughs.

Thank you Tarpits and RT.
I wasn't going to post anything in a thread. It just seemed too self-serving. (Although I did get an ad for the site)
But I'm darn happy you guys did. You made my day.
Thanks again. |

Well, on the first 6 takes anyway.
I tried to explain to my wife that it was difficult to hold myself at that angle, and make it look like I was sitting upright on the bike.
As I'm sure you know by now I got no sympathy. No sympathy at all.
Women! Sheesh!
(I can say that because she's out running errands and doesn't read the site.) |

Posts: 3204 Memphis | I'm really torn about getting the book. I've been following the blog and thoroughly enjoyed it but I don't want my wife getting any ideas from yours! Can't believe you had your helmet off in the video (ya big baby!). Only clue about having to sit in the saddle while tilted over was a cool vein you have kind of popping up over your eyebrow. OK, I'm getting the book. Also riding up to the great Northwest after the AVR in August so might get to meet you guys in person! |

After six takes sitting on the Vision at that angle making the video........I would need help just standing up again!

Your sense of humor and mine are very similar (guess that's why I was laughing all the way through it). I did however find a couple of typos and omissions - that being said, I would be happy to proofread any future offerings.
Please consider writing/publishing more of your adventures in life. We all need to laugh more LOL. |

And if anyone feels so inclined, a review on Amazon never hurts. But make it honest.
I've always felt that the work will either stand or fall on its own merits.
Of course, I'm not above bribery either.

I can identify with the trip up the mountain, although my short saga wasn't nearly as hair-raising. I wrote about it back in 09 here on the forum: http://www.vision-riders.com/bb/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=4089&pos...

Posts: 742 North Orange County CA | My wife will tell you that I will read anything, and while that is arguably true , I wont go back for a second helping unless the author can actually write.
I was introduced to "David and Suzanne's Big Frikin' Canadian Motorcycle Adventure" through David's blog post and found the first couple of installments hilarious. Unfortunately my attention span is short and since blogs are writing on the installment plan, I soon moved on to reading material that I could carry with me. The kindle, like a good dog, never leaves my side.
So when I discovered purely by accident that it was was available as a book, I thought "heck, lets give it a try", after all most of us have spent more money on a lousy movie and popcorn. So I took the plunge and ordered the book - the kindle version not yet being available.
I have to admit that, when I opened the box from Amazon, and looked at the book, I was a little taken aback. I was expecting a short travelog, something peppered with more than a few photos, and text reminiscent of that in the Roy Clarke's Big Note Songbook. What I got instead was 302 pages of type so small that I was forced to briefly consider a page magnifier or a trip to Costco to get my bifocal prescription changed.
Rather than reach into my wallet again, there are after all, chrome bits and go fast goodies that are competing for my disposable income, I opted for closing one eye and holding the book at arms length. With that out of the way I and settled in for a read, that once again, exceeded my expectations.
Lions, Spiders, and Bears! Oh My!
David and Suzanne's Big Frikin' Canadian Motorcycle Adventure sports a cast of characters that includes predators that run the gamut from large carnivores and imaginary spiders, to BMW riding lawyers and Nietche spouting Doctors . There are vaguely "Deliverance" inspired innkeepers, and euro-tourists who continually court disaster because they cannot conceive of wildlife acting naturally, and who insist on attempting to feed, pet and photograph at close quarters the grizzlies and cougars who have made the area surrounding the lodge their home.
Every touring rider has packed the wrong gear for the weather, spent a couple of days soaked to the bone or traveled miles out of their way, risked running out of fuel and dealt with road conditions that were less than ideal. David and Suzanne handle it all with humor and love. If you are married you will recognize the unspoken conversations and the subtext that occurs between spouses.
Sure , this is a story about a motorcycle trip, and the fact that the motorcycle is a Victory Vision doesn't hurt, but in reality the main character is the 30 year relationship between David and Suzanne. They are at once as familiar as an old leather jacket and as comfortable as your favorite boots.
Despite bad planning, poor roads, lousy directions, and inclement weather, David Moore's absurdist humor and self deprecating point of view turn the story of a week long motorcycle trip to a cushy mountain retreat into a humorous, and at the same time touching reminder that in motorcycling, and more importantly in life, it's not the destination but rather the journey that matters.
The journey, and with whom you choose to travel.
Hats off to you Breaker on a job well done! What a great read.

Readers be forewarned, the author is not a fan of GWB or Republicans and makes every effort to relate the story to how it is "Bush's fault"- I am parphrasing this point, but it is clear David is no fan.
I like the book so far, funny- only on page 68- but seems very, very wordy
Just my opinion.

Before you ask, as much as I like you all, you're not on my list. You'll have to ask Santa or buy your own.

I finished the Kindle edition of Dave's book a few weeks ago myself. Great read even if he hadn't been on a Vision, but he was, and that made it all the better.
I especially loved the part where he dribbled oil underneath the Beemer dudes bike... Wonderfully evil.

Heheh.. I wondered if anyone else was going to try this. (see what you started, Dave!!)
That said, I have a Harley buddy who will be finding a bit of oil under his bike whenever he rides it again. (will probably be Spring before I see him on it though... it's starting to turn chilly here). |

All I can say is I enjoyed it.
Meh, he gets a bit wordy in places and could probably refine some parts a bit more. But then, it's easy enough to armchair quarterback someones work when I've never published anything myself. Personally, I'm hoping he and Suzanne take another trip soon, because I'd love to read about it too! |
