Posts: 1359 New Bohemia, Va | Not with Victory though. I'm in the middle of changing my brake pads and getting the replacement bolt for the left front caliper. When I pulled the rear pads the little o-ring that goes on the end of the pin that holds the pads in disappeared. Not have a vic dealer close by I figure I could just go to Auto Zone and get one. Wrong, nothing. So today I decided to stop by the Suzuki/Kawasaki/Aprilla dealer thinking the bikes would have a similar application. I go to the parts counter with the pin and tell the man I need an o-ring for it thinking he would grab some from a bin somewhere. He asks what does it go to and his expression changes when I say Victory. He says he doesn't have them. I say I would think a Sukuki or a Kaw would have the same application. He says, give me a model and he'll look, I say never mind and leave.
So, I go to the Harley dealer and ask him if he might have this o-ring and I tell him it goes to a Victory. He ask what year and I tell him and 08. He begins looking for the o-ring and it comes with a pin for a bike of the same year but he'd need to order it. I ask him if he just had loose o-rings and he says he does, and brings back a box and we find them in short order.
I thought I'd share that little experience and the difference. |

Posts: 208 Edmonton Alberta, Canada | Hey Cap, I here ya! Most dealerships,be it heavy truck, auto etc. Parts people today can not think outside of the box. If they are unable to look it up with just a few strokes of the keys......sorry I can not help you! I deal with the heavy duty stuff more. Talking to parts people all day. If you have a serial number they can get you the parts, however don't ask them to go to their swith drawer and ask them to find you a momentary on - off- monentary on switch! And for this they have a trade cert! I would rather parts people look at the item and and go and pick if (old scholl maybe) I have taken items apart for a o-ring and just replaced it latter.
Looking at your experiance I bet that harley dealer will be the one you go to next time as he did go out of his way to help you! However the the suzuki dealer will be your last stop! But this younger generation feels if they blow you off, they can continue texting in the back! Glad to hear you found your part. |

Posts: 395 Moravia, IA | Napa or Oriellys (Ive worked at both) will have a very large box of assorted different sized o-rings behind the counter. Just get the box out.....find one that works, pay your 50 cents or whatever and be off. They have more of a farm/fleet/service type or "old school" parts counter business.
Ive never found an Autozone that was like that. |

| Your local Ace Hardware should have loose o-rings too. Mine also carries Amsoil. Lots of Metric fasteners and chromed fasteners too.
I go down to my local boatyard when I need SS fasteners, they have really good quality at a great price. Go figure for a boat store and the parts guy loves to look up out of the box stuff. |

Posts: 1359 New Bohemia, Va | This is really is the purpose of my post, just to share what to expect and solicit places to get common hardware items. We have napa, but some are specialized, others are out of the way, so I thought I'd try the "dealers". I've dealt with the HD on other occassions and they have always tried to help, they are in deed old school. The ricer joints have always been specific and will not help unless you give them a model of bike they support, even if is cross-application or common, and that goes for all of them. We're getting an O'Reilly's soon, but it will be the first for our region.
Since I mentioned the HD place, nobody has mentioned this at all, but I've got a sneeky suspicion that they "might" be the next HD-Indian-Polaris dealership. Just guessing, that's all, but since the Victory dealer closed that leaves Victory looking for another taker, and the merging of Polaris-Indian, and the HD has a huge floor that used to be half filled with Vespa's for about 3 years up to about a year ago has me thinking maybe.... |

Central Wisconsin | O-ring...you knew all along that you could get that O-ring at a hardware or auto parts store. In your subconscious mind you just wanted to look at new motorcycles ... lol!

Posts: 880 Orlando, FL | It's kinda like going to the store and the cashier rings up $6.00. I give her a $10 bill and a $1 bill. She looks at me sideways and says, "Mister, you gave me $11.00 and the bill is only $6.00" I just smile and tell her to ring it up and she'll understand. So she does. A smile comes over her face when she suddenly sees the change amount is $5.00 Thank gawd she didn't give me five $1.00 bills!! LOL Most people behind counters just can't seem to actually think anymore. Seems it's a lost art!
Glad you found one that could think!!

Posts: 1359 New Bohemia, Va | when it comes to the cycle places the folks at HD is the only one that will act they are there to help you. All of the japanese bike places will want you to be very specific about what you want and won't budge off it. But I know what you mean about the change, thankfully the register does the thinking for them, because if it didn't they'd be out of a job. I found in our area it is very prevelant and it seems to get worse all the time. |
