Posts: 447 Northeastern Penna. | I just had my dealer install a new avon cobra tire on the rear.
I noticed a big difference in the smoothness and cornering with this tire.
My dealer said that the cobra is a softer tire than the stock dunlop E3, therefore I will be lucky to get 5 - 8 thousand on the new tire, compared to the 12,500 I got on the original. I disagree with that !
I know that motorcycle tires do not have treadwear ratings on the sidewalls, like auto tires.
Now, another dealer who I speak to regularly, says that he has been putting the cobras on his vics and
recommends them.
I know that there is more than 1 good tire out there.
Is this just another example of "It's a matter of opinion " ? |

Posts: 101 Springfield, TN | All I can say is my experience with Metzlers on my Classic Cruiser. Factory Dunlops went 10K miles. Metzlers went 5500 and showed cords... nice ride no life. I tried Maxxis... same result. Nice ride but cords in 5000 mi. Went back to Dunlop, same ride over 10K miles.
On my '08 Vision I have replaced 3 rear E3's and averaged over 12K miles on each. |

| My Metzlers went 11000 miles?? I run the GoldWing rated tire. It seems to handle the load. IMHO |

Posts: 324 New Orleans, La, | I ran a set of Cobras, Gold Wing rated, and got 11500 out of them even with running a 70 series on the back. Never and I repeat NEVER put a 70 series tyre on a VV rear The handling went out the window at paralegal hwy speeds and it's too tall for a VV rear so it rubbed terribly and I probally lost 3k mi. right there. It is however the absolute best rain and twisties tyre I ever used, IMO. |

At this point you have made the investment and you will be the judge and jury. Since you asked the question it will be up to you to produce the evidence and your conclusion. There are people on here that can wear any tire out in a month and others who can make a cheap knock-off last 30K. Please keep us posted. |

| Since this is under "Victory General Discussion" I will say have run Avons on my '99 and my '03. They are a great tire and improve handling. I never got the same mileage from the Dunlops but I felt the handling was worth the distance. It wasn't that much anyway.
Anny has Dunlops and they work fine. changed them out at 16k miles. The rear needed it but the front was cupped. |

Whereas tires for rice burners are compounded for handling first and wear second. Let's face it, we are not screaming around corners in our Visions. My experience is that sport tires last about 6-7K where big cruiser tires last 10-12K. At least for me. My mid size Kawasaki 1500 came with Bridgestones which lasted about 10K. Then I changed to sport tires for better handling. The bike handling improved dramatically.... especially in the rain and in corners. But the tires lasted only about 7K. But the handling was so much better I still run the Metzler Roadtec Z1's on my Kawi. So if the Avon's feel that much better to you, who cares about the extra milage? Not me. I want all the tire performance I can get (within reason!) The extra handling may save my life one day.
