San Antonio, TX | On 6/6/2011 just before 6 PM I was riding home from work when it all went down.
Stats: Temperature 101 degrees, North bound on Wetmore turning left on (West bound) on Starcrest, San Antonio, TX.
I was in the left tire track (behind the driver) of the car in front of me. I was last in a line of five vehicles waiting to turn left. I only stopped for a few seconds when to light turned green. My stop was made in the sun before the overpass.
The cars started to move so I left two car lengths in front of me and followed the traffic. About a car length before entering the intersection (in the shade of the overpass) I saw some fluid on the road in the passenger tire track of the lane. Since I was on the other side of the lane I missed it and did not need to avoid it.
I started my left turn and it did not take long to realize that I was in for a ride. The front and back tires both broke loose at the same time.
Welcome to the low side:
I stayed with the Vision and rode it down to the left tipover and the Vision spun around to do a U-Turn instead of a left turn.
At this time the tires left the slick pavement and caught some traction.
Stupid move:
The Vision was almost to a stop so I turned into the skid to lift the Vision.
Welcome to the High Side:
The Vision started up but came up so fast that I did not expect it. So I could not stop it before the high side occurred.
At this point the vision was out of stored energy so it laid over to the right. I hit the kill switch.
I then fell of to the right and barely touched to ground.
No road rash, no scrape and not even a cut.
As I stood up I smelled the oil on the pavement.
All Traffic stopped. I walked over to the oil spill and could see sheen of oil in the shade of the overpass.
I put my kickstand down and pick up my Vision as you have seen me do in one of my videos.
Two women walked over to me and asked if I was OK. I smiled and I said yes that I was fine. Then I pointed out the oil on the ground.
I got on the Vision and it fired right up. I walked it back a few feet so I could make my turn and went home.
When I got home I called 311 and told the city staff about the oil on the road. I hope they cleaned it up.
Then I changed into work out gear and went to Yoga.
The large black arrow area was covered in oil. The small black line is where the Vision came to rest pointed South.
Red dot marks oil spot.

San Antonio, TX | I am completely unharmed. I did however hurt my back in Yoga class.
The Vision has minor scratches on the Tipovers and the Chrome Tipover covers. Also, when it high sided the right front mirror hit the ground. So it scratched the edge of the right front fairing.
Nothing else happened. I just picked it up and went down the road.

Nice riding! At first I was going too fast to put a foot down then I did not react fast enough on the high side. I think I could have stopped it from going over but I stayed in the seat with my feet on the boards.

New Bohemia, Va | Honestly, I question if I'm doing the right thing by putting a foot down at that speed. I have done that 3 times including the one in the video, twice on the Vision. Those times I had hit sand in a turn. |

Yes, this I know. It is a knee jerk reaction that I will chide myself afterwards for say "you big dummy, don't do that!" Yet, each time all has been well even though I have a sore foot from the impact. I'm not sure how to train not to do that, and I'm vigilent at ANY INTERSECTION or ANY BLIND curve because of the potential of chemicals or roadside wash going across the road. This is where I have encountered this stuff and this is where, 3 times I have done the drop foot, push manuever. I've not heard this addressed anywhere and I'm not sure how not to keep from doing it because of it being a knee jerk reaction. Any tips or pointers is welcomed. |

New York State | I hear you I grew up riding enduro bikes and when I took the MSF the instructor had a chat with me about using balence instead of muscel to get the machine to preform. I'm still working on keeping my elbows down and my feet on the pads. My Vision has bitten me a few times but I keep trying to ride well
