Posts: 277 Apopka, FL | I am keeping my buddy's 2003 Road King running for the summer while he goes to AK on his 'Wing for 2 months. I am VERY JEALOUS. Don't understand why he didn't want to ride the RK there! So, he wants my son and I to keep her ridden and lubed. Doesn't mind us putting on some serious miles on her, yea right, it's a 2003 and has 11k miles. Those are some serious miles! If I put serious miles on her, I will probably have some serious repair bills!
OK, so the RK is similar in style to my old 2002 TCD. Windshield and hard bags, American V-twin, good pipes & good sound.
Differences:
- RK doesn't handle--cannot carve the corners like my TCD. She feels very stiff/not wanting to lean over/counter steering difficult
- RK doesn't have good brakes--remember, she only has 11k and the brakes suck
- My size 9 shoes overhang the floorboards both over the outer edge and the front edge! My feet are actually small, yet the floorboards are smaller
- Either my arms are too short, or the handlebars are too short--OK, this is the same as on my TCD
- Power--no comparison. I would say RK is adequate with her Stage 1, Victory was "throw your head back fun!"
- RK tranny (her best feature) is smoother than the clunky TCD
- Wind management on par with TCD until I put on a fairing
- Vibration gets annoying when stopped. I will say, she does smoothen out at speed
- Headlights--suck I think HD still measures their output in candlepower instead of lumens
Not Harley bashing, just giving my personal opinion based on my evening ride last night. Now, if I were to compare to my Vision... Let me just say, I know this site is limited on storage space so I won't even start! I'll say this, the Vision is a whole 'nother level. |
