I was on my way to work and my cruise wasn't working all the time. When I came home, cruise control would not work at all. I noticed a few times last week that when I started the bike up, the cruise control light was still on from the previous ride. Anyone else having cruise control trouble?

It might be a rear brake issue, i had the same thing happen and got off the bike and looked at the rear brake lights and found them to be stuck on, the only time they would work was when it would go back off, i had the dealer replace the rear brake switch and the cruise has worked fine.

Bump! I am having the exact same problem as IndyVision had. My cruise control light will flicker and come on and off by itself even when the cruise control is set to off. Sometimes it happens as soon as I start up the bike.

IndyVision, what did the dealer end up finding wrong with yours???

Mine has been reluctant to engage a few times, but I've never checked the rear brake light to see if that contributed to the problem. After about 15-20 miles on the freeway, I tried again, and it's worked fine ever since. Not real comforting with a 5000 mile/2.5 week ride coming up in a few weeks.....

But does your green cruise light come on even with the cruise powered off? Or flicker on and off whenever it wants?

They replaced the switch for me no more issues.

Hi Glock,
Did you also have the green cruise light on the dash turning on and off when it was not supposed to?

Thanks

For a couple days, the cruise was very inconsistant. I would start the bike and a couple times, the cruise On light would be lit. Reguardless, sometimes the cruise would work and sometimes it wouldn't. I called the dealer and was going to bring it in, then it started working and I haven't had a problem since. My dealer didn't even look at it. Like I said it lasted a couple days, and then stopped. I did find out that one guy had cruise problems and all that they did was replace the small control module below the handgrip and the problem was solved.

My Vision got REALLY wet during my ride to West Texas. The Cruise control light switch lights up on the handlebar, but now it won't engage (the green light on the dash). I suspect the handlebar controller got wet.

Suggestions?

Better check the Goldwing forums too. They ain't perfect either. They do have a good dealer network and rider support network. I swapped bikes with my buddy again yesterday. The Goldwing is a nice bike. He agreed that the Vision is a nice bike. We're both happy with our choices.

Well I kicked the tires on a GW, an UC and the Vision. The Vision won hands down! During my 1100 mile odyssey I had no less than 10 people approach me over a 4 day period about the bike.

As for the cruise I thought I read someone saying that Victory has a replacement set for the handlebar controls. Warranty work baby!

As for my trip I've posted pictures in the gallery and I must say that I put my faith in this bike because the roads I was travelling had 1-2 cars every 30-45 minutes. Not much traffic out there.

There is a Tech Note on how to reset the Cruise Control in the Tech Reference Section:

http://www.vision-riders.com/bb/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=1245&pos...

My Cruise Control was erratic at best fresh off of the showroom floor and I did the reset described in the Tech reference above and it works flawlessly now. The Cruise Control Reset Procedure is for when you replace the Cruise Control Cable, but it also fixed my problem immediately.

Hops this is all that it is and not a bad control.

Richard

Okay you are officially a genius. I followed your directions and everything happened just as you explained. All of the lights and controls for the cruise control work perfectly.

Man I love this forum. Now if we could only figure out how to fix the funky radio/iPod controls on the left side.

Actually Cudos to JAM for posting the fix. I just happened to find it and use it. Glad thats all it was.

Whats up with the IPod Controls? Mine work fine. You select the Playlist on the center console (1-12) and then scroll through songs with the button on the handle bar next to the volume control. I wish you could go to the last song you played in the play list but if you change playlists and then go back, you start from the 1st song.

BTW - I have an IPOD Nano 8GB. Which IPod are you using? Only certain versions work with the console interface and IPod Cable.

As for the iPod issue I do believe its operator error. I have the 30 G Video iPod, which I believe has a hard drive. When I put in the cable, I recall the instructions saying "Don't use an iPod with a hard drive."

Well I guess my experiment didn't work because I have to reset the iPod every 1-2 hours because it freezes. I know everyone says this is the cause, but I'm being like a two year old. Why does this happen?

PS. Where's a good place to get an 8G Nano?

Cheers!

I would assume that maybe the IPOD with the Hard Drive is locking up because maybe the drive is going to sleep and not waking up? I have not ever had one of those but on a PC that has Power Saving Options enabled, The drives often go into a Hibernate Stateand don't wake up properly. You fix it in a PC by telling it to never hibernate when on AC or DC Power. Not sure if the IPods have that capability.

As for the IPod Nano 8GB, I bought two refurbished ones from Ebay for about $130.00 each (Normal cost is in the high $180's). The 8GB IPod Nano works perfectly.

I wouldn't use an iPod with a hard drive on any motorcycle unless it was kept in your pocket. There is too much vibration that can cause the read/write heads to crash into the disk platter. I'm not sure about the iPod, but there are some hard disks that can sense the vibration and will go into a safe mode where the heads are parked away from the data. This would cause stuttering of the playback as the heads would be parked much of the time.

Flash based players are a safer bet, just watch out for the flaming nano's: http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/12/japan-orders-apple-to-investigat... and http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-10020108-37.html?part=rss&subj=ne...

I was flat out told by two Victory engineers at the AVR do not get an Ipod with a hard drive. Buy the Nano. I had the 80 GB and it locked up about an hour and a half into my trip to the AVR. The Ipods with hard drive cannot handle the vibration or heat.

My cruise went down last week. I ran diagnostics myself and determined that cruise module was bad. after 2 visits to dealer and 3 hours of diagnostics, they decided cruise module was bad!
They also claim this is the first one to EVER have that problem.
Of course the one time I can use cruise it is NFG as I am planning a 1200+ mile trip for 5 days.
second electric issue is grip warmers went south and they decided to replace the relay(which they didnt stock... My first two issues in 18K+ Miles

I'll wait until the bulletin is released. The way I figure it....why replace a bad controller with another bad controller?

Our dealer network in central Texas is awesome and when I told them of my long trip and that I was concerned about the ignition switch...they replaced it on the spot.
