I am going to purchase a new Vision this Summer & wanted to know about the amount of heat I can expect to get between my legs from the engine. I haven't heard very much about it on this forum.

Posts: 904 29 Palms California | Well uncle, since no one has busted your chops about the topic for this, allow me. First off, I can say that it is warm between my legs, but not as bad as on the HD I traded in. It is an air/oil cooled engine, but not bad on the sac. You might want to ask Pollolittle about having a full load in the denims, and then how hot it is. He's had some issue with his "behind" lately. We went to the dentist for a prostate check. |

Posts: 495 Carrollton, TX | Fergy and I did a 1,800 mile trip to Big Bend National Park in Texas this last weekend and temperatures were as high as 103 degrees and heat coming off the Vision is not a problem. I have ridden the Gold Wing and the HD Ultra and I found both of them to put off more heat. I would say the vision didn’t put of anymore heat than my Vulcan 1600 classic. Adjusting the wind deflectors just under the rearview mirrors can help a lot also. I have a set of the lower wind deflectors ordered and they will help in both cold and hot weather. |

Posts: 235 Evergreen, CO | The heat that I have noticed is more at the ankle level. To be honest, so far I have not ridden in what would be considered HOT weather, like Spock & Fergy have. Folding in the small clear triangular wind deflectors under the mirrors seem to help a bit.
I've seen other posts on here giving justification to the highway pegs to permit your feet to be more outboard from the motor to reduce the discomfort. The "heat between the legs" that you describe I have certainly felt on my previous Harley, but not yet experienced on my Vision. I've not had an opportunity to fully check out the future offered lower wind deflectors set for routing additional air towards the rider (I've only had them in the cold weather position during the demo days ride), so I cannot comment on their effectiveness to reduce rider heat from the motor.
I agree with others that it is less of an issue on the Vision than it is on other large bikes, so just make the jump, and have that same silly grin on your face when you ride like the rest of us!! |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | My 1.3 cent worth on the heat. Yes, I've experienced heat on the right side if I ride with my leg next to the exhaust. There is plenty of room to move your leg away and be comfortable. It is not intolerable to ride even with the leg next to the pipe, but it will let you know things are warming up if you are not moving on down the highway. Sitting over an internal combustion engine in sweldering heat and not expect to get hot is absolutely crazy, but I'm lovin' every minute of it. I can't get over my pillion when she rides because she'll catch a nap everytime, just like today when we road 45 minutes to get breakfast. This bike is an investment in life. |

Posts: 297 VA | Compared to my last Vulcan mean Streak, which was water cooled, there is a lot more heat. I actually think it's worse when riding at highway speeds. However, if you move your legs just an inch or two away, which the floorboards are big enough to do easily, you get a nice cool blast of air on the legs. I think the foot pegs would be great for hot weather, but I've riden in 92 deg. F, and it wasn't really too bad. I can't compare it to Harley's since I never really rode them in hot weather. But, I odn't think it's enough to make me in any way regret buying one. Still a really comfortable and fun ride. It's amazing how well the bike handles and how far you can lean it in turns and curves. |

Posts: 1484 LaPorte,Tx. | If most of your riding is in the city (urban) areas with stop lights and signs, there will be heat, you just can't get way from it while sitting at a light. Plus between lights your probably not going to get much speed, so there is going to be heat.......your sweating in your helmet, right. I hate it, that's why I try to get out of the city as quickly as possible. Riding at highway speeds here in the Houston at 85- 90 degrees, no issues. The one issue I do see, for us short people, my right leg is pretty close to the right exhaust pipe when I'm stopped, now that ankle area gets pretty toasty at one of those six light intersections. |

| There is always going to be heat ...but its not bad compared to the Street Glide I used to own..that twin cam 96 engine is a scorcher. |

Posts: 904 29 Palms California | The "fins" help direct wind, and do an amazing job of it. I live in the upper mojave desert and have already experienced the above 90 degree weather. Use the fins to direct the wind either across the engine or deflect away. It's just like putting your hand out in the wind while your to drunk to drive, and you try to get the car fly by using your hand. My dogs and I always stick our heads out (tongues hanging) of the window and go for a flight! I've never gotten airborne, but still try every time! |

BB I actually got it up to 119 on the GPS before I hit some form of a limiter and the engine started cutting out. I also forgot to mention that I have the foot pegs on my Vision and putting your feet just a little ways out on them allows your leg and feet to catch some air and drive it up along the inner side of your leg and this helps to keep you cool. |

I have not done my second speed run yet, my first was 5th and rung it out to 5200 rpm, 110 mph. Sorry to get off the heat thing here, but you know there is no heat over 100, it is just "Giddy-up"!!!  |
