Calgary, AB,
Looking at an '08 with just under 4000 miles, purchase from the 2nd owner, who bought his buddies bike as second owner, and now has not riding time.
Any specific items to check for? or other comments
Also, what is correct tire pressures f&r, as i'll need to ride this home 3+ hours if I do buy it when i see it.
Any siginficant differences on required service schedules or other ownership related things?
Comparing this to a new '11, and am aware of the new transmission and antilock on the new vs '08 but it's about 60% of new price so pretty interesting.
Appreciated any/all comments

Tire pressures = 40 front, 38 rear. I have 54737 sMiles on my '08 and haven't had any major problems.

You can get the vin number and your local dealer can tell you if all recalls were don't to it. Just for peace of mine and they should be free. If it been sitting change oil right away. Look at tires for weather checking. Even if its been inside under a cover. Here is the manual down load so you can read before riding it. Make sure you get the manual from him. Put in fifteen to twenty of pounds of air in the shock.
Your going to have a great ride it a great bike. your going to have to open account no big deal.

I usually go 41 front, 39 rear. That 1 pound makes SUCH a difference!!! :-P

ABS, in my opinion, not really NEEDED. Nice to have, but not necessary. Certainly not the price you'll have to pay for it (nice savings on used bike). Don't know about the new transmission, but IIRC, doesn't the 08 vision still have a 106/6 tranny? My 09 should have the same transmission. A little loud when as it "clunks" into gear, but goes in easy enough and I don't foresee any problems with it. Radio might lock up, but should just be a reflash. And it'd happen infrequently.

For tires I usually go 40/40 , other than that oil changes are every 2500 miles

I'd buy it! I've got an 08 I purchased 11/07 with 34k on it. Love the bike. I did have a few items that had to be fixed under warranty.
Oil pressure sending unit, CB, and fuel pump.
If you do get it, have a dealer check it over and ask them to update all of the systems firmware to the latest.

Good luck!

+1 Firmware updates required for functionality of Ipod connections and sound quality on 08 stereo. There are a lot of "fixes" on the forum for early glitches, most have probably been taken care of but a search may reveal missed items.

There are a lot of proven reliable 08's out on the road, I think you will be pleased and get a great deal on top of that. Pull the trigger and ride with smiles!!

I'm on the extreme high mileage side in under 4 years with minimal down time. The hardest fix was when the fuel pump went. I did have both front and rear rotors replaced under the original warranty and still on my second belt, first one had 45,500 miles on it and it still looks new. The pulley and belt is worn some now but still good. Replaced the mufflers, good for around 40,000 miles. I think you'll be pleased with the '08 if you're giving a good price for it.

Use your belt till you see defects. The book say 25 thousand. Go to fifty thousand and check it. I have seen belts go as much as 100 thousand miles.

Buy it, get on it, put on your 'pudding face' grin and ride it until you get too old to hold it up @ a light. The basic bike hasn't changed significantly, they just add 'tweeks' to attract new customers, but then everyone does.

The one thing not mentioned yet as I reread the posts, With only 4000 miles on the bike, it will not really be broken in yet. I don't mean you need to take it easy on it, just that things will still get smoother, quieter, and better with a few more miles.

I have an 08 Tour and have had absolutely no problems with it. I bought mine in July of 08. I believe some of the earlier models had a few issues, but not mine.

See if they have the service records or find out where they took it for service and ask if they have a printout. The only thing I would worry about is how much it sat with only 4,000 miles on it.

I took mine in for the Recall Notices not because I had a problem, but just to have them fix whatever could be broken.

Mine is one of the first O8's as I bought it in December of 07, right now I have 44,000 on it with really no major problems except that it is just too hot to ride. I now only ride from 7am until 2pm!!! I haven't changed out the belt yet but I probably will at 50,000 just for peace of mind.

Calgary, AB,
Thanks for all the input/comments. I've bought it, but probably won't be able to go back to get it for a week or so, as WORK keeps interrupting.
Seriously appreciate the comments; while I was pretty comfortable with the Vision in general, mostly concerned due to it being a 1st year design etc. Have also talked to a few local guys with '08s, and except for a few minor issues, every one I talked to was very positive, some commenting they'll keep it forever, even if they buy something newer at some point.
Speaks pretty highly.

Mine's the red burgundy colour. Will post pics once I've got her home.
thanks to all who commented.

DAMN! Here is my private (not NOW!) message to you when you e-mailed me asking if you should buy a Vision:

Hey Pal - got your message.

As for buying a Vision? Please don't - you'd be doing ME a favor.

Why? Because the Vision is the best bike I ever owned, and the best looking bike ever made. The fewer that are sold, the longer my Vision will be admired by all who look at it.

I also encourage all other owners to heavily customize their Visions. That way, my stock Vision looks like a 'custom bike' to everyone looking at it. Back in 2008 I took my Vision to a Custom Bike Show, and parked outside near the entrance. When I came out, there was a CROWD around my bike - and every one of them said that the Vision was the best looking bike at the Show and should win first prize.

So I am not encouraging you to buy a Vision - new or used. Please - consider a BMW.

But NO - you had to buy it anyway. Well, congrats. You now own THE BEST !

Calgary, AB,
Well, thanks to all's input, bought it, rode it back home 190 miles in brutal, gusting sidewinds last night, through a plague of bugs in late evening. side winds gusting to 40+ mph and VERY gusty. It was effected a little but nothing serious.
Covered in bugs, mama looks at it in semi darkness and says you went all that way for that?
Cleaned the bugs off this am, she's liking it a LOT MORE now.

Interesting to Donetracy's comment, I rode around in town a bit today, got 11 different compliments on her, parking lots, traffic lights and just driving along thumbs ups by others who I guess haven't seen many of these (I don't relate well as I'd been watching for them for well over a year now)

Again thanks to all, if I knew how, I'd post a pic or 2,

FINALLY, as I've not read the manuals yet, can someone tell me how to remove the GARMIN from it's mounting rack on the bike. PO offered to do it but I'd have him leave it on, now i can't figure out how in H to get it off the mounting rack on top of the tank. This is the VICTORY version of the Garmin, if that helps.
Looks like a little tab with a screw on it at the top, rear side, but it doesn't seem to come either up or backwords out(towards front of bike) to release the unit.

Regards

Not sure if you got this answered yet or not but there is a little small silver screw driver with a security tip that is used to loosen the screw on top of the mount. Then just pull up on the lip where the screw is and the unit will pop out. Been awhile since I replaced mine with a Zumo but I believe that was how I removed the old style Garmin.
