Posts: 904 29 Palms California | First off, my appologies for no photos.
Sunday, met at 0900 in 29 Palms for breakfast and ride briefing. 8 bikes in the group, I have the only Victory Vision. Temp is getting into the 80's. Ride approx. 40 miles to a place called Amboy. It has a population of ONE, and a dog. This is basically a ghost town on route 66 that has one man that "caretakes" a small hotel, and gas station. As we pulled into the town, there was well over 200 bikes, taking a break from their rides back from Laughlin. Make shift taco, soda stand had the most awesome idea ever. Since they don't have liquer lic. they had a huge ice chest full of Bud. They requested a donation for a beer, and you put your money into a cardboard box, for whatever price you thought it was worth. (No hands touch the money, which makes it legal and way cool) Temp was well into the 90's and a cold bud hit the spot. After the pit stop, we went west on route 66 to a town called Ludlow. It's an amazing trip through the past going down 66, mostly ghost towns with only a few folks hanging on. Most little "towns" are about a half an hour from each other, or a days ride by horse back. Which makes it interesting to think of how tough those people were that braved the Mojave desert, just to start a life. Our group pulled into a little gas station, that was wall to wall bikes. Both sides of the freeway exits gas stations were full of bikes. Amazing. Of course I didn't need fuel, so I parked and waited. Low riders, baggers, choppers everywhere. My bike pulled most of the attention. ( I loved it). After fueling, we went west to just outside of Barstow to a little bar called "the Barn". The band was great, the beer was cold, and fun was had by all. Although the "Barn" was in the middle of nowhere, there were about 20 bikes and even more people. After about 3 hours, we loaded up and continue west on 66. We went south on Barstow road, and stopped off at another awesome watering hole. It was mainly ATV's and dirt bikes that occupied, but more than one road bike was present. Cold beer, free peanuts...South on 247 back to Yucca Valley. About a 230 mile round trip, with good friends.
I got unbelievable gas mileage. Ave. 53 mpg. Couldn't believe it, but then again I rarely go the speed limit, and with the group I had no choice.
No mishaps, however, one of the gang had a white shirt on, and was on a springer with no windshield. We hit a bunch of locusts (which covered my windshield with orange and yellow bug guts) and covered someones white shirt. I heard complaints about the bugs, sore buns, and low fuel. I didn't experience any of this. My 14 year old was packing with, and she loved every minute of the day. Left at 0815 and back into the garage at 1700. Great day of riding.

Man, what a ride! No calamity to befall the BUckn*kd! Good deal! Nice write up! Couldn't believe it, I could actually follow along on the trip, without getting sidetracked. Sounds like fun. I have driven out of San Diego on 15 just north of LA and turn on some road headed toward Palmdale. Looked like ghost towns sparcely populated. Fun road though.
I normally get around 45mpg going between 65 and 55. Last Friday, a little bit of Highway riding around 65 to 75 and got around 39mpg.
Got any new chrome for that low riding VESPA machine?

Fountain Inn, SC United States | Nice Bucky! I drove through Ludlow about 20yrs ago. Stopped at the only gas station in town and went to make a call in the only phone booth in town. The phone number in the center of phone dial was....
...wait for it....
11
I didn't think they had that many people!

Posts: 2027 Brighton, TN | It has taken me a while to find said TeePee and of course Assembly required made in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, by Americans. But it is written in some language I do not understand. Maybe, I have the order wrong. Take toke, then assemble, then search for Eagle. Still working the bugs out.

Posts: 496 Scottsdale AZ | BUZZARD has been called! Old Buzzards has been called before - and Geezers, old Geezers. You are both GOOFY. Why did it take so long to go 230 miles? When I went thru Barstow on a Sunday afternoon the streets were deserted, I stopped for a meal, two other bikers in the joint and nobody else. People must watch TV a lot at home. I guess I didn't know where the places were you mentioned. Pictures next time please.
Its not really in Broken Bow Poot, just west.

Posts: 904 29 Palms California | We had to keep hydrated. We stopped at a few watering holes. As you know, the desert will dry a brother out. DJ, did you stop for gas in Barstow? I had a quick glance at ONE Vision the whole ride, on the north bound side of RT66/HWY40, fueling up. I yelled, but we were going 55mph. We had just left the "Barn". You must have stayed on the 40. If you would have gotten on rt66 you would have seen, Ludlow, Baghdad, Amboy...The road isn't the greatest and it's only 55mph, so it wouldn't have been the road to make time on. You would have also had a ton of grasshoppers and other newly hatching bugs guts on your windshield. That is one lonely stretch of road! I had George Thuroughgood keeping me entertained.

Posts: 2027 Brighton, TN | B-B-B--B-B-Bad Bad To the Bone! Go BuckN*kD! Sport that 80's big hair band tee. Sling head up and down, repeat until someone is happy or passes out (careful with that one), Maybe we leave that little tidbit of Americana to the ladies. HEHEHE! Rip you up some old jeans and sport that mullet baby. I already got the rip in the jeans, just don't know if its in the right place.
I hear you SandintheCreviJim - one would think if he left out on a 9 hour trip, he could have covered a little more ground. Well, if you remember he stated earlier he didn't gas, maybe he did and ran out. His gauge was stuck on full a while back, maybe it got him again, and he ain't manning up to it. He's got an image to uphold you know.
How much further West - this toke and trip are getng harrds to focust!
