Just wondering if there are any interesting mods being done to the saddlebags particularly to squeeze some more space out of them? Looking forward to seeing how creative people are gettings.

Nothing can be done.... The rear tires is so close to the bag now. Look up under the rear of the bike.

Finally someone mentions an actual "useful" modification topic! 2 or 3 more cubic feet of space is way more useful than 20 or 30 more HP or torque on these machines. At least until I can find someone who is actually using that much power.

Hope to see some creative responses.

Did some great riding with a couple of HD boys (well - middle age men) on the weekend. Both had spent more than $10,000 on engine mods to make more power, and both were mostly 'bare-bones' (nothing more than side bags and skinny windshield) and both riding solo.

And I whipped BOTH of them in straight drags (1st thru 3rd gears) and 5th gear roll-ons. And I had luggage and Co-Pilot on board.

THE POWER IS WORTH IT - just for the giggles it gives me at my age. Thanks KEVIN !!!

And the Co-Pilot can't spend money - cuz there's no place to put anything she might buy! BONUS BONUS BONUS !!!!

Mike, I'm not rich, or even close to it !  So whatever money I get - goes to Both Of Us !

Co-Pilot is beautiful, and young, and I love her TOTALLY - but reality is - WE EAT, WE PLAY, WE STAY, WE RIDE. But WE DON'T SHOP.

When I can't ride anymore - F**K IT - run up the Credit Cards ....

And as long as I can ride - PAY THE DEALER FOR REAL KNOWLEDGABLE SERVICE !!!

And let others worry about OIL or DRAIN PLUGS or CT's or BELTS or CRAP LIKE THAT. Just be AMUSED - cuz life is TOO short .....

Sorry to all who are offended by my sense of humor - maybe you too will laugh at yourself when you grow up - I do ! (laugh at myself ... )

I just got done with a 6 day 1,900 mile trip with 7 other bikes all HD's of different models. For those who say the bags are to 2 small I say BS. I ended up carrying all the crap they bought on the trip plus the booze. I had my clothes in the trunk bag. Side bags, rain gear, leather jacket, chaps, pair of shoes, tools, leather vest and then their s*#t. I even carried a pair of riding boots for a lady that was on the ride. The HD guys were amazed at what I could carry. My wife and I can easliy go for 2 weeks with 1 bag on the trunk and nothing else. I do not understand those who say need more room unless they are taking the kitchen sink with them.

Well I dont take the kitchen sink and could probably have enough room if I stayed in motels, but when camping you'll always need more room. Heck the tent, and sleeping bags take up alot of room. Just so you know, I'm not complaining...still think the Vision is the best there is.

Not sure how much room people need.

Contents from just one bag:
rain jacket, rain pants, rain boot covers, fleece jacket, cold gear sweat shirt, 3 flash lights, allen wrench set, 2 multi tools, tire gauge, tire repair kit, socket set, needle nose pliers, vice grips, water bottle, cable ties, first aid kit, dry bag set, owners manual, registration insurance info, WD 40, room to spare. I do use the door organizers and the small cavity that the shock valve is located in.

Will this beat horse ever die? If you can't pack your bags right it doesn't mean Victory should redesign the Vision just for you. Guess what? The bags are the exact same size as when you bought the bike. Did you not open them up and look inside before purchase? I can only assume you had no idea what you wanted in a new bike and bought the Vision for her pretty looks? Go buy a trailer and stop whining.
When 4 of us went to the Grand Canyon the n to Moab all Pete had was a sleeping bag on the back seat and clothes in his saddlebags and all the camera and AV stuff in the trunk. That was 10 days of travel and he said he would pack lighter for the next trip.

The Vision was designed just for me! Sorry guys to those who don't like it. I was told by a "real biker" that a trailer is the only way to go. An unloaded bike is the only way to ride he says, and if he have to bring something other than you're old lady, pull a trailer.

Please raise your hand if you have been on a week long trip on your Vision?

Please raise your hand if you could not pack everything you "needed"?

Please tell us what it was that you had to leave at home and what it was that you took in it's place?

Only excuse I'm buying is if you are camping and bringing the tent/chairs/sleeping bags/kitchen sink....etc....in which case you need to be pulling a trailer.

BTW, I have done (2) 7 day tours on my Vision and had enough room for a laptop and an extra helmet....and I did both of those trips without the tour pack.....my bike is the Street version with a luggage rack on the back of the passenger backrest and I use the Saddlemen BR4100 bag. If I can do it, anyone fully decked out with the trunk should be able to do it.

Phoenix - The "real biker" I met road an old indian with no saddle bags. He rode a lot and would take his annual trip to sturgis. We spoke one day when I saw his indian and wheeled in for a closer look. He saw my bag on the back of my seat and reminded me of challenge I had on the twisties. At the time I didn't have my Saddleman, just a tall roller dufflebag. I had more room for everything and I was returning from a business trip. That means I had two computers, two suits and several changes of clothes, and I still have room. The indian riders comment was from experience, and he was an old biker. He said he fixed his bike to pull the trailor after the first trip to sturgis. He said he loved the feel of the unihibited bike without having cargo shifting or being loaded top heavy, bikes are made for that he says. The trailor puts the load behind you and you don't even know that it is there no matter how hard the twisties are.

Now, as for the bags on the Vision, they hold more than I need on average and I'm more than satisfied. I still don't have a trailer and probably won't go that route unless I can't keep the wife off the bike. Right now, two hours is a long trip for her, an hour there to eat, and an hour back.

Longest trip on the Vision was 14 days and 3400 miles, 2 up and all I needed to add was a small bag on the trunk rack. Otherwise got it all in for 2 including rain gear, hot and cold weather gear, tools, first aid kit and even a lightweight full bike cover. We did have to do laundry once half way through, but it was otherwise no problem.

Don't know what people are packing that requires more room, or even a trailer, but I say that if it doesn't fit, leave it home......you don't need it. But then we ride for the ride, and not to make a fashion statement when we get there, so its really easy to pack light and simply.

But to each his own.

Wow...ok obviously some of you are pretty opinionated about the saddlebags. I've never run out of room to date and yes I opened the bags before I bought it. They are a little awkwardly shaped which makes boots sometimes weird to pack (military and need to carry my gear to/from work). I was just curious to see what if anything other people had done to theirs. It was a simple question don't know why some of you got so spun up.

As far as making the Vision bags bigger it would be nice but how much stuff do you pack. The copilot brings a curling iron , a hair dryer makeup bag, rain gear, an extra helmet and enough clothes for a 7 day trip for both of us. We have a luggage rack but it only gets used when we buy stuff to bring back. Learn to lighten UP

The first trip I took on my Vision, all I carried was what I could carry in the factory bags and trunk. 5200 miles round trip in 12 days from Mansfield, LA. to Klamath Falls, OR. and points in between. Never had one regret about not having enough space. I even carried a small tool bag for some tools that I never even had to pull out. You have to pack smart and learn to pack only what is real important.

It is pretty damn ignorant to tell someone to go by another bike just because they have a desire to make the Vision better. Or are you saying the other bikes are better?

Personally I can stuff a mac truck up a gnats a$$ when I'm doing a long distance run, but when it comes to the fast access of daily use the Vision storage has issues. It's not so much the size, but the shape that kicks my butt.

I use the Vision as my daily driver to work, and the saddlebags opening and shape make it difficult for me. Being able to fit a laptop and/or a full face helmet would be nice, because the trunk can't hold both of those items. That means I can't lock them both up at the same time. I do not have control over the size of laptop since it is issued to me by work, and to be frank it is a fairly small laptop.

For a large touring bike I don't think that is to much to ask for since what I'm doing is not that uncommon, and I think it is very doable in the Vision package.

So let's go back to the original question without all the minutiae....

Has anyone modified the bags to enlarge them???

Personally I feel that anyone that comments on how bad the visions storage should of done their home work before buying this bike. It's not like you buy a vision and 6 months later the saddle bags shunk .. they are the same size they were when you visited the bike at the dealership. If people find out later that the storage doesn't work for them then who's fault is that ? Just saying...

I was looking the other day and thought I might be able to extend the mounting bolts for the license plate about 4", mount the plate on springy hinges, and put a small windsheild or handlebar bag there. Could mount to the plate, then would flip plate down and unbuckle for access.
Good for spare sunglasses, tire gauge, cigars, etc.

Also have the wife working on a cheaper Vision Dash Organizer made from weather reistant material rather than leather. Have high hopes for that, but will have to wait and see.

What a great idea!!! I'm so glad for your wonderful insight. Next time I get a bike I will ignore the specifications that tell me if my stuff fits, and carry all my crap to all the dealships and see if it fits.

Get off the who's fault it is wagon, because the OP wasn't about who's fault it was, but really if anyone did any modifications.

Besides, even if I had known about some of the "minor" storage issues I'm having, I still would have gotten a Vision.

Wow again. Like I said touchy subject I guess. I love my Vision and for long trips or even day trips the packing isn't an issue. Like I believe I said earlier it's my daily commute to work trying to stuff my boots, uniform, bag, computer, etc in there and the unpack in the parking lot everyday. Being military the boots thing is what is really a little awkward considering bag shape. But to be honest I've been thinking about trading it in for the Cross Country with the trunk. Much easier to open and stuff and retrieve everything. This'll be my last post on this subject since everyone has something to say except about the topic. Cheers all.

as much as i defend the visions storage i thought about the XC with trunk as well! i actually went to look at one today.. those bags on the XC are amazing! i swear one of those bags are larger than both visions bags....? but here is what made me worry about getting the XC.. one of the strong points of the vision is the FRAME mounted fairing... im not sure after having a frame mounted fairing if i would like a handlebar/suspension mount fairing with NO lower protection at all. when i ride my vision in the rain my feet stay dry. then the smaller windshield that is NOT adjustable made me worry alittle as well... there doesnt seem to be One winner in ALL catagories.....

What's interesting is... you go to the cross country forum , you can find a handful of posts from previous vision owners that now own cross country ... I noticed a pattern in posts, they all seem to say the same thing .. better wind protection on the vision , along with a smoother ride , and handeling ..as much as I would like bigger bags , to lose the others would be more but downfall ...

Thank you my "brotha from anotha motha"!

The Vision is PERFECT! I have not changed one thing on the bike since I purchased 2 years ago, yet the desire to make motorcycles better is what created the Vision to begin with! Do any of you need more space? NO! Do any of you need more power? NO! Do any of you need anything more than the Vision has to offer right out of the box? HELL NO! Yet the creative minds of American engineering is what drives motorcycles like the Vision forward and makes everyone stop and say WOW!!

The Vision is an excellent motorcycle, but every single inch of the bike could, and will, be improved on as technology and engineering abilities advance. Nobody cares how much stuff you carried on your 68 day trip across America. Congratulations on your superb packing skills! LOL This topic should have been focused on making the bags better.....because somebody....somewhere will eventually make them better.

I hear people talk about Victory factory folks often read these threads to see what customers are saying. Did you ever think that maybe they want to hear from the user about creative ideas for future designs. The Vision will change folks! It will definitely change in the future.

All of you who like to discuss Fuel Management Systems and Exhaust Upgrades and Cams and.........whatever, please continue and I promise I will not but into your threads and talk about how I road 468,000 miles across the world on a stock motor and never need anything else. Feel free to reciprocate the respect.

WELL SAID !! Sure I've thought about adding a trailer, putting on the trunk rack, adding some hp products, but if I did all that I'd be broke and couldn't ride at all, so to enjoy my time left I prefer to ride and ride and ride till I can't do it anymore. It will be difficult to to improve the Vision for the market it was designed for,and if they do what will be the cost of such? So its time to go ride for now--enjoy !

Inside the the right hand saddle bag lid is a small square hollow section. I have the 8 Ball and this area is empty. I designed a small metal door with tabs on the bottom side to fit into the tab slots in the recess and I fabricated a quarter turn fastener to engage in the tab hole in the top of the recess. Now I have a small closable storage box inside the saddle bag area.

Boots - 2011-07-29 9:00 PM I was looking the other day and thought I might be able to extend the mounting bolts for the license plate about 4", mount the plate on springy hinges, and put a small windsheild or handlebar bag there.

Keep in mind that the license plate screws only attach to the plastic underbody. There is NO metal anywhere in that area.

Now I have a small closable storage box inside the saddle bag area.

take a pic and post ----

personally, I'm glad there is not a top opening bucket on the vision and the doors swing away. The lines of the bike make it even if some think it is a compromise for a top-opening bag. They have the cross-country tour that has all that wind managment, etc and the huge saddlebags. I say that is the bike for the top-open bagger folks.

As far as modifying the innards to make them larger doesn't seem possible on the vision without make major changes. Something that Victory probably won't do for some time.

You can always carry your laptop on the pillion seat behind you.... I would assume you have a bag for it.

if you look under the saddle bags, up inside where the rear wheel is you can see there is almost NO room to make anything "bigger".. the space between the rear wheel and the saddle bag is very close...

Making the hips wider will allow them to make bigger bags...

Well, just try asking about oil or car tires....We Vision riders are an opinionated bunch . There are not many questions that are asked that do not bring out the whirling opinions.....

I am lucky. The storage space is all for me and I can add a back seat bag if I need more. My wife has a Spyder RT so she has all the storage space she needs as well. Love my Vision. Too cool man.

No really.....it was like 44 degrees yesterday with blustery winds....thank goodness for heated seat, heated grips, and an adjustable windshield. How did I get along without them?

One thing I can say about the bags is that they are much larger than what I had on my Kingpin Tour and I love them. I can not believe how much stuff I can put in them, but I was used to the KPs bags. D

I also ride the Vision Street and the wife and I did almost 1800 miles in a week along the Outer Banks. How much does one "Really Need". Stock bags and 1 T-bag strapped to backrest. Had it all.

A friend told me when his clothes get dirty he goes to walmart buys cheap and RIDES ON.

A friend told me he never packs much....says there are too many Wally Worlds with cheap stuff.

I have a cure for the size of sadlebags.................my Dodge Ram Hemi quad cab!!!!! I Co-pilot has one sadlebag and the trunk.....she bitched once and found her stuff on the driveway and sitting at home for a week by herself! She learnt sneakers or sandle, not both!, Every hotel has a hair dryer, One jacket, if colder, throw on a couple of layers, or the rain suit!!! No shampoo, again hotels supply. If we ride into a (no helmet) state, there better space for my brain bucket or she has to hold it!
Riding is brain surgery....jeans and a t-shirt. JMO

p.s. I will let you know how my next co-piolot ride!!!!!! lol

I was thinking of buying a White CC and having the word POLITE across the front but in a mirrored image! So if someone looks in their mirror...  BTW, I too wear a white helmet - a Scorpion EXO 900 to be exact.  Since I live in the Palm Springs area, I also wear a silver mesh jacket for the summer...  I'm finally wearing my leather Victory jacket now.
