So let me get all the details out of the way first.
2008 Vision
40K
Lloydz cam, rev extend ecu, ness big honkers and filters.. Dont know of anything else that might even matter...

So my issue is this. When taking off like a bat outta hell from a complete stop, there is a squeal that appears to be coming from my clutch. It has been happening for some time now, like in the last 10k, but I never felt a slip so I didnt worry to much about it. Well, it seems to be getting worse as of late, and I could of sworn that the clutch felt like it was slipping a bit when I nailed it from a dead stop yesterday. So, my questions are the following. Does this sound like I may be needing a new clutch soon? Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing the squeal? I know that on my 05 Kingpin, there was some bearing or bushing or something that would get loose causing a squeal like what I'm experiencing. Could I be dealing with the same type of problem?
Oh, just so I dont disappoint, I'm a darksider and I use Rotella!

Seeing how the clutch plates are fiber with metal plates in between the fiber and should have plenty of lube on them I would guess maybe a through out bearing. But then how many miles do you have on it and it sounds like your a hot roder. Maybe it is time for a clutch. If its quiet not under a load and doesn't slip then I'm still think bearing. Guess you'll have to open it up and look.

Ya, it's quiet under normal conditions, so I'm leaning towards the bearing being the cause of the squeal as well. Just trying to get some other opinions besides mine...

I wish I could hear yours as mine did it a few times under similar circumstances. I take have fairly hard, after I've rolled a little, so it hasn't done it in a long while. I never good pin point exactly what was happening, whether it was the clutch or the belt rubbing just right as it seemed it was a rolling squeal, not a slipping squeal like a clutch would make. It would stop as quick as it started but I never felt any slippage. It was very high pitched, like the sound a banchee would make.

I thought about the belt causing the squeal but that doesnt make sense to me... I know some here have had belt squealing issues so thats why its even in my head. Mine is not a rolling squeal at all. It happens right when the clutch engages, it's momentary, and yes it's fairly high pitched.

I know it don't make any sense, but it seems to make sense to me. It's like an alternator belt squeal when you first start your car up. I've never known mine to be consistant though. I can't seem to purposely recreate the conditions, but every time it has done it, it was the same. I'm taking off, taking off hard and I'm dumping the clutch quick. My guess is that there is just enough twist and pull at the same time and the belt rubs hard against the side of the rear pulley. I just can't imagine the clutch making the noise that way, it's enclosed and my squeak is outside in my ear. Just a guess, I may never know.

Ok, I suppose I can see that happening. Hopefully that's causing the squeal. My mind keeps taking me back to the issue my Kingpin had with its bearing. If I remember right, the bearing is not supposed to move but it tends to break free a bit under extreme pressure, thus causing the squeal (I may be totally wrong on the way the bearing actually works). It sounds an awful lot like my Kingpin! Whatever the case, I'm not to worried. Just wanting to see if someone had experienced this before and knew what caused it.

The bearing is plausible - techs, where are you?

Now I am wondering about the squeal I have heard under similar conditions. I was thinking it was a tire noise. I am with the Cap'n on the exterior noise though does not seem to be a bearing noise on my bike. What about luging the belt and trying some hard launches?

I probably would not of associated the squeal to the bearing if I wouldnt have experienced it on my Kingpin. As far as lugging the belt and launching hard goes, I've tried it with no success. In other words, the only time it squeals is on a hard launch from a dead stop.

I have had the clutch squeel in two different circumstances, one when starting in 2nd when I am not paying attentionand the other time when dirt in the clutch handle would not let it fully engage. Cleaned the dirt out worked like normal.
