Posts: 395 Moravia, IA | I really dont want to rehash every aspect of the Darkside.....but to tell you of my experience regarding insurance and my dark'd Vision.
You commonly hear "the insurance" argument used when going dark comes up. When I went dark I asked my agent and they said "no problem". Even so most will argue that they may say that.....but if you need to use that insurance your going to get screwed.
I recently hit a large pothole and laid the Vision over......roughly $5K worth of damage.
I haul the bike into the Victory dealer and the adjuster/appraiser heads on over. Entirely different guy then the one I talked to.....so Im prepared for at least a "discussion" about the car tire.
......not a problem. He said they only way it may ever be a problem is if that tire caused the accident and they could prove that a regular motorcycle tire would have prevented it.....which, in his opinion, was "damn near impossible" to do.
......Im also running a rear fitment motorcycle tire on the front. Same statement by him. Clearly the large pothole was the problem......not the type of tires I had on my bike.
Check wrote.....bike fixed.....no problem.

Posts: 1359 New Bohemia, Va | sorry to hear of your mishap Aaron, glad it turned okay. I guess you're okay, like most bikers that would lay 'er down, you probably wanted them to put your bike in the ambulance instead of yourself. Thanks for sharing. |

It was a bad month for me....I can laugh about it now but damn was a discouraged.
I obliterated my ankle in a dirt bike/dual sport accident.....15mph low side, planted my ankle to try to "save" the bike.....I know better buts its a survival reaction that Ive never been able to over ride.
Ankle hits the ground in a rut.....pulls me off the bike and just decimates it. Torn ligaments, broken leg, split my fib and tib at the base.....ugh. Didnt hurt the bike....so I finish pissing down my leg....my girlfriend helps me back over to the bike and I mount up....leg hanging off the side. We were 1 1/2 hours away from home.....we rode on in to the ER.
Bunch of surgery, little bit of hardware......and 8 weeks later Im in a walking boot....but told NOT to put that foot even on the ground.
.......so I toss the crutches on the Vision and take off. 2 days later I wad the Vision up.
I hit this pothole.....go down on the right side hard.....slide across the pavement.
This is where it gets REAL good. My girlfriend is riding my 2 month old 2011 BMW G650GS behind me.....doesnt get on the brakes in enough time (or is following to close, either way). When I come off the bike and slide across the pavement my HEAD hits the BMW and takes it right out from under her. She tumbles down the road....the BMW tumbles over onto the shoulder....bounces a couple times and stops.
Im completely unhurt.....not even a scuff on my metal ankle protective boot....or a tear in my shirt.
Girlfriend has a scuffed up lower arm....like just a few whitish rub marks on her skin.
BMW is resting on the shoulder....on my freshly installed $900 TraX hard luggage.....not a mark on the bike or the luggage.
The Vision is hammered.......suckage.
This was also on the 4th of July.....
5 years......over 100K miles of riding.....never even dropped a bike in the parking lot......and I wreck 2 times in the same month. Arguably you cant count the dirt wreck on the dual sport.....but the Vision for sure counts.
.....to say I felt stupid was an understatment. |

Posts: 3773 Pittsburgh, PA | when i first went to the dark side years ago on my kawasaki the insurance agent and the PA state inspection place both said the same thing.. as long as the tire is D.O.T. approved. (stamped) thats all that mattered legally. their words not mine... |

| Got the same comments when I asked my insurance company. Good to hear you are ok. Before you get all the factory parts, check out some of the aftermarket or factory accessories. You will find that some upgrades are cheaper than the factory replacment parts.
