My Center Panel won't stay down. It is the one that sits in front of the seat. This is on a 2008 Vision. Anyhow I do have both doors open when I seat it. It goes on but I can watch it pop up..... I pulled the metal pins and put a washer under each. That seemed better. Then I wrapped the pins with electrical tape. They stayed down till today in the HOT sun they popped back up.....

Do I need to go buy new grommets? They looked OK but maybe they are just too worn out...

What do you all think?

I've had mine on and off several times recently. It kinda pops in when it's fully seated in the grommets. Is it possible that one of the wires shifted and it preventing it from seating all the way? I think you would have to take that on and off quite often to wear out the grommets.

Are the grommets still there? It sounds like they may have fallen off?

My grommets got all wonky and out of shape so a couple of turns of electricians tape around the studs made everything good to go- I think it has to do with the design of the seat center front and the shape of the panel sort of working like a pop top, perhaps a better design using a lip @ the front to go under the center panel and a screw or quater turn would work @ the seat/panel junction. A hinge @ the front and a flush lock would make for more glovebox like space.

duct tape should fix it. Good for holding tail lenses also.

Have you put any graphite or silicone on the grommets? If they get too dry and binding the knob of the pin won't go all the way through the grommet causing it to pop out. I can't believe you could wear them out. I use my bike to physically test each of my harnesses so I have had my seat, and the panel off hundreds of times just this year.
Take the electrical tape and everything else off, clean the grommets and pins good and then slick up the grommets. It should be fine as long as you don't have an extra goodies in there pushing it off.

I have the exact same problem on my new 2011, except it's just the front throttle side of the panel that keeps raising up. The panel sits flush with the seat removed, which leads me to believe the front of the seat is putting pressure on the panel and forcing it up. If I sit on the seat and really force it back while tightening the front seat bolts the panel fits a little better, but still not like it should. I'm not sure if it may be the trunk or the rear hold down for the seat that may be forcing the seat to far forward, but intend to take the trunk off when I get some free time and play with the trunk, seat and panel fitment.

I didn't have any issue on my 2009 Vision with this panel.

Installation
1. Lubricate grommets with soap and water solution.
2. Align pegs with grommets.
3. Push cover evenly downward until seated.

Straight from the service manual, maybe they are just no longer lubricated.
