Posts: 1290 Ruskin, Fl | Does anybody know if a helmet is allowed on a plane in your carry-on? My first instinct is yes, but the TSA does some stupid sh*t. I'll be riding up north next week, a 30 road trip. The wife wants to fly up for a few days and is nervous they won't allow hlmet on the plane.
Thanks

| My wife and I have carried ours on in helmet bags for years with no problem. Last time was a month ago.

| I flew from Chicago to Orlando last July to ride back an '07 Kingpin that I had purchased on eBay and all I took for carry-on bags were my Kuryakyn Grand Tour bag and my Nolan N102 helmet in a helmet bag. No problem going through security although I did take the helmet out of the bag. |

Posts: 102 Cedar, Michigan | I flew from Traverse City, MI to Tampa, FL about 3 months ago to pick up my Vision and had little issue. They did remove the helmet and run their magical bomb detecting pad over the helmet and tested it. I think they didn't like the headset with all the wires running inside the helmet. Question: Why would you strap a bomb to your head? Damn I crack myself up! |

Posts: 1290 Ruskin, Fl | I guess the same reason you would put a bomb in your shoe and strap it to your foot. A friend of mine is head of homeland security at LaGuardia Airport. He said it's not on the list of prohibited items. He told me to tell her she had to wear it. That would be so funny if I got her to do it, but I'd never hear the end of it. |

I look @ TSA as mostly what I call 'The luggage inspectors of Penzance' (see Gilbert & Sullivans Pirates of Penzance) where everyone gets a big official hat and a red sash and it's a big show to make the sheep feel better. They won't be satisfied until they can cuff you, put a hood over your head, and make you fly naked-they and their trained dog act (where you are the trained dog) are the major reasons why I quit flying commercially, don't feel like getting to the airport 2 hours early to do the dance before a 1 hour flight. |

Even with our NEXUS cards, they can be pricks. Nothing like a Chinese-American guy who speaks broken English - questioning me like I'm a biker/terrorist bent on the destruction of America.

Posts: 506 Woodland Hills, CA | I personally have no problem with TSA, and feel safer with them on the job (well, most of they anyway). As far as transporting a helmet as a carry on, like some others, I have never had a problem doing it. |
