Maybe no concern, but I was getting out of a situation the other day and hit the rev limiter in 1st gear. I don't know why I didn't shift sooner, but I had thought I blew the engine when the limiter kicked in because it acted like it wanted shut down. I quickly shifted to 2nd, but I'm still concerned if I messed something up when I had it revved that high. Any input?

You didn't hurt a thing. That's why rev limiters exist, to prevent an engine from reaching destructive RPM levels.

The stock rev limiter on the Vision is set very conservatively at 5500 RPM. Lloydz reprogrammed ECU resets it to 6400 RPM. These motors have been proven to be safe at those RPMs.

Thanks! I had figured that, but it seemed to have the carwash affect. You know, after you wash your car it seems to go faster. After hitting the limit I thought it was acting up, however, thus far it is still running great, just knowing it has an affect in my mind.

I had never rode my Vision hard until The Fall Ride at Tomahawk in the parade, hit the limiter a couple of times during the parade. First time it happened I was not ready at all and it took a couple of seconds to know what to do but the second time at least I knew what to do quickly - SHIFT!! It sure does kill "forward progress", not a real good thing in a parade where you go from 3 to 60 and back down to 15 all in three blocks or so and it's that way for the whole 18 miles. I may have the rev limiter done by Lloydz but will leave the speed limiter on or I would need to find out just how fast this machine would go. Very sure it would be past the tire speed rating right? Even with a 15% safety factor or so....

Your tires are "H" rated, which means they are rated at full load at a sustained speed of 130 MPH. A short burst of speed above that is okay too. Taking your 15% safety factor into account would allow speeds of 150 MPH for a short while. You wouldn't do that, now would you?

I have seen people hold the throttle WFO for 15 seconds while in neutral just to prove nothing bad would happen. I'm not gonna do it to my bike, but I have never seen it hurt anything when others do it.

rdbud, now what makes you think I would see how fast my "Twister" would go??? This is why I said the factory speed limiter will never come off or I would need to find out. I will say 115-120 mph on the Vision vs the TCD is two different things, the Vision your just getting going and the TCD your on the edge with the wind, noise and general wind buffeting. I would love to shake out the Roland Sands bike just to find out where my balls end and reality sets in, if you know what I mean. Only thing that scares me is height's and dying in a fire. So as I always say:

Sometimes, one just has to show a smug Goldwing rider what a Vision's taillights look like, when he's trying to show you his. It doesn't take that long, and then you can all slow down again.

Chris,I can guarantee that there is no damage to the engine as since I got the cams, mine has been to the limit many many times and it still runs great.

I can't believe it took you four years to hit the limiter!  Felt like a Mac truck hitting the jake brake didn't it!?  I was so used to my previous bike revving to nearly 10,000 rpm that I hit the limiter on the Vision the first week I owned it.  As I remember, it scared the crap out of me back then.

I remember the first time I hit mine, scared the hell out of me. I was used to my other bikes 6500 red line.

yeah, that is something, but I would always shift at 4.7 to 5 when nailing it hard, mostly though around 4 under my normal driving conditions. I was a little peeved at a cager when I the hit and just keep shooting first until I hit the limit.
