| Good Day All I have been having issues with my Vision's gas mileage. I realize that I do tow a trailer on occassion (about 450lbs with cargo+trailer) but even without the trailer I have noticed a serious drop in gas mileage. For example, I hooked up the trailer with my pooch last night. The bike had 36 kms from a full tank. When I got home my fuel warning light was on and I only had 210 kms on the trip. it was about 10 deg cel out and I was travelling on a divided highway at about 120 km/h. To only get 210 kms on a tank cannot be good, trailer or no trailer?? I have noticed that even without the trailer that I am only getting 250-300 kms (closer to 250 kms) on a tank. I remember when I first got the bike it was normal to get about 320 kms on a tank. I just did an oil/filter change and changed the air filter. What is everyone else getting for gas mileage? Is this a sign of other issues? Thanks!! |

Posts: 130 Houston, Tx | I generally ride 2up....and depending on the throttle repsonse and whether I'm riding into the wind or not; I'm generally in the range of 225 miles per tank. I think this is something like 360km +/-
That said, has anything recently changed? Type of fuel your running, new exhaust, changes in fuel controller (if applicable)? I'd say your running VERY RICH and burnin a lot of excess fuel. How are your plugs? |

Posts: 506 Woodland Hills, CA | Not sure about the conversion from kms to miles, but I just returned from a 2700 mile trip through the southwestern U.S. and averaged about 45 miles per gallon for the entire trip. (This is based on total mileage divided by total gallons put into the bike during the trip, NOT the mileage computer on the bike as that is essentially a piece of s**t.) I rode 2 up with full saddlebags, trunk and additional bag on the luggage rack. I estimate the total weight of passengers and luggage to be about 475 pounds (not willing to give you the breakdown of that number!). Lowest mileage was just under 40 mpg, highest was just over 49 mpg, but I was mostly in the 45 to 46 mpg range, with the average at about 45 as I said. This has been pretty typical of my road mileage in warm weather (its a bit lower in the cold). Around town I am typically in the 38 to 42 mpg range almost always riding 2 up.
Hope this helps.

Posts: 164 Quad Cities, IL | My computer MPGs is typically low-mid 40s and I usually fill up around 150-160 (just to be safe). However, I'm smart enough not to trust that alone. My calcs have always been mid-high 30s per fill-up but I know there is the varialbe of how I top off every time or did it burp enough, etc.
That said, I recently took a 450 mile trip with a couple fuel stops followed by a 350 mile trip a two days later with a couple more fuel-ups. My average over the 800 miles and several fuel stops was 37.8 miles. Not bad, but I had hoped for better. But don't consider that a complaint...why, because it isn't, just something I accept as fact. I love the bike, love the ride and have no problem feeding the beast to keep me smiling!!! |

| From the sound of the other posts I have never had really great gas mileage.... I think that the best tank that I have seen with this bike is about 340ish kms About changes... Great question, in this past year I have only added chrome upper and lower air vents, installed a trailer hitch, oil & filter change and most recently air filter. When I ride I usually rev the eng at about 2500-2800 rpm, Something that I do notice is that usually when we ride I am usually tail gunner and I do notice the km/h speed awkward with relation to the gearing of the transmission that is no doubt geared more to the mph. As a result, I find that sometimes I run a bit high because of the speed range that I am in... Can anyone think of anything that might be wrong? Or might be in need of an adjustment? |

Posts: 2118 Pitt Meadows, BC Canada | Definitely low, Gerry. I ride 2-up 99% of the time, and usually 10-20 clicks over the limit. And ALWAYS accelerate faster than any other vehicle around me. At 300 km I usually have 1/4 tank left - and seldom allow it under that.
You don't mention how much gas you put in. You do remember that the Vision REQUIRES a gentle shake/rock before adding another 3-4 litres?
Also, I have read in places/times on this website that the fuel controller computer can require repair/replace.

I have entered every fuel purchase into a EXEL spreadsheet.
The onboard computer's calculations are optimistic, to be kind. |

Posts: 1365 Central Maryland | Keeping my VV stock. I'm through with modding engine's on so many bikes that I have had; past and present. I still have a Triumph Rocket3 that literally tears my arms out of their sockets... my VV is going to be meant as a "relaxing ride".... :-)
...no exhaust mods, no engine mods, no extra chrome. Just the comfort that is inherent to this bike.
Maybe a backrest though....

| I was pulling an Aspen Ambassador tent trailer this summer. trailer load was about 500 lbs. the worst mileage I got was in the run from Hope to Kamloops. about 250 Kms but usually I was getting around 300 Kms. without the trailer I can easily get 400+ and put in 22 litres on fill up. |

Posts: 63 Calgary, AB, | Did about that same amount today. 433 KM on 21.91 litres (269 mi on 5.79 US gal.) This is about 70% highway at 106 KM/hr (64 MPH) the rest city but not heavy traffic. The highway was about 50% into a strong headwind, so it was pretty good. I rod til the yellow light came on; don't usually go that tight BUT I had good access to gas so I wanted to see what it would do.
Also, all was 1 up riding, but windshield up most/all the way on the highway ride in particular |

IBA just printed an article saying fuel economy is 20% higher at 70mph than 80mph. Your best mpg is around 50mph. If you are getting 55mpg at 50mph, you are getting less than 30mpg at 90mph. (Summer 2011 Iron Butt Magazine)

Thats really good MPG!! Is that computer numbers or pen and paper calculations? My computer shows 45mpg, but pen and paper is pretty consistent at 37MPG. Thats one up, both tires at 41psi, with a stock motor and pipes, open air box with VFCIII and no IAV.

| With my car tire on back and 36 psi in it and I fill the bike all the way to the top I have learned that pumping slow is the answer. I get a constant 45 mpg I have a calculator on my phone so I know I'm right. That's keeping it 70 mph and under. Over that I drop to 43 mpg and hard running over 80 mph to 90 mph I get 36 mpg |

Hate to admit it, but thanks. Was hurting my head the other way, and I was too lazy to convert. :-)

Exactly, 100% the same.
Only mods are straight pipes, and did take out that noise baffle behind the air filter.
