Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | yeah, you're right, this makes my 7th winter starting since I took up riding again. I am thankful that I live below the freeze line here in Central Va. I lose maybe 3 weeks out of the year because of frozen percipitation on the roadways, sometimes I don't even let that stand in my way, just saying.
glad you and the others got some good ride time this past year and I hope Spring comes early for you all too!

| By Halloween the vision will go under the blanket for a good five months. I have enjoyed ever minuet of riding in all the different weather. The days and night have been great and all the time sitting in the garage washing and waxing has been absolutely great.
Thanks Vision for one more great summer and I hope I have many more. |

I feel bad for seasonal riders but I understand that riding in -30 F and ice might be a little uncomfortable and dangerous.

Same here in Houston area. The northern riders probably crank up the snow machines . |

| I hope we get a couple weeks this winter that prevents me from riding. I want to paint the light grey pieces but I can't get off the bike long enough. |

| You guys in warm weather crush me with your year around riding.
Yesterday here in minnesota it was 56 leaving the house and came home with a hot 80 degree sun burning my face. The saddle bags held my chaps electric jacket and normal jacket. Yes all in on saddle bag. My smile was so big my face still huts from the joy of ridding knowing I have 25 days left it hurts but I'll get threw it and wish you well in your winter riding. I did notice yesterday at on bar stop the hd riders had more bugs stuck to the front of there bike then the vision. I did tell them how lucky there were to have such a great designed bike. He He He |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | John, I would be curious to know how well the car tire would do in the snow and even ice. There have been a few inspirations from the winterlands that drives me ride year 'round. One guy, either in michigan or new england is hard core winter rider, I can't seem to find his website anymore (hmmm) but he rode in snow and in ice all the time. Of course he lives in a low traffic area. Also, there is a guy in England that is a medical dispatch courier and rides all year around in the snow and ice and does very well. He has one of those enduro type BMW bikes and handles it very well. If I lived in the northern lands I would resort to whatever methods I could to be able to ride as long as I could. It seems that a CT would afford the stability in snow that a motorcycle tire may not afford, just a thought. |

Posts: 2118 Pitt Meadows, BC Canada | I live in the 'north' and I ride year-round on any day that doesn't have rain. Now, in the winter, that means I sometimes go one or two WEEKS without riding. And we have been known to have snow on the ground for one or two days in bad winters.
Like Chris, I would ride in the rain (I used to, all the time) if I could afford someone to clean up my bike for me each time. Old age SUCKS !
Ah, well. Beats the alternative ....

| If you don't have four wheels and even if you do when its 18 above and plowed roads your playing Russian roulette if you ride. We have a couple of goldwing riders that will shovel there drive way just so they can head out. They told me if you can see pavement your going to be ok. But there is that black ice that will bit you in the ass.
Stay home or move south is my advice |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | whether it was true or not, I met some wingers some years ago that said they were from canada. They would ride in the winter time by using studded tires and some kind of ski contraptions that would mount to the frame rails that would keep the bike upright. It would allow some lean, and steering, but would not fall over. I met them in 1985 or so when I was riding my CB750 Custom and they happened to be passing through VA on their once around the states ride before heading home for the winter. |

| Can't say I've ever ridden in 18 degree weather in Texas, 24 degrees once, for a toy run. Took me 2 days to thaw out. |

I try to ride until the road salt starts. Winter gives me a chance to plan and prepare for next years rides.
Every year I have goals and this year I exceded them. 3 IBA certs and I never thought I would be going to the dealer meeting! The Victory Rally was fun.
Time to start planning next years rides .........................

LOL LOL LOL No jealousy here, my friend. I rode in Florida from 1997-2002. Flat, straight, boring roads with only the occasional gator or some other road kill to break the monotony. And too hot to ride in the summer (or too wet). Only nice part was riding north out-of-state into the laughingly called 'mountains'. But any day of riding beats a day of not .... |
