Hi, I guess my subject is not accurate, there is nothing wrong with the starter. My bike will not crank in neutral. For a while if I giggled the shift lever, it would crank. Now I must put the clutch lever in. A dealer that has no idea what they are doing replaced by primary cover a few years ago after a crash. Would not surprise that it is something they did . I don?t know where to start to diagnose the problem. Going on a couple of long trips soon and don?t want to get stuck. Push starting a Vision is not an option, I?ve tried. Also, as a last resort can I jump the solenoid at that starter if need be.

Thanks

I would suspect the neutral start switch. Or the connector going to it. Does your neutral indicator light and your gear position indicators read correctly?

As long as your clutch safety switch is still good, it will always start by pulling the clutch anyway.

Thanks Ronnie. Yes, the green neutral light illuminates and so far the gear indicator is correct. Where is the neutral safety switch located?

On my 2008, it's down in that valley, on top of the transmission, between the rear cylinder and the frame.
