Just had to bleed the brakes on my 08 for the second spring in a row. This year the pedal would go to the floorboard with no resistance. Fortunately the air was only in the right side front caliper (bottom bleed fitting). Of course it was the last one I bled, but it is the easy one cause you can reach the brake pedal while opening the bleeder. Unusual...yes. Nuisance...yes, but not really difficult at all to remedy yourself. Blessed me with a litttle Zen of Victory maintenance and was an opportunity to tutor my boy on hydraulic systems. We had just completed the installation of the factory XM system and harness so it was a full day! The "Victory" after-ride was priceless.

I don't know how it could be air. But I was wondering if anyone that has this problem had replaced the brake line, with another stainless steel with teflon. I was having a similar problem with my dirt bike. Couldn't get it to pressure up. Bled the brakes, ran a ton of fluid through it, pretty confident no air. Couple of months later and same problem, air in the system. This last time, I couldn't get them to bleed. So, I thought the cheapest may be having a new line made and mounted up. Dropped a new one on and it bled fine and quick pressure.. Been a couple of months so far and no leak down that I can tell. I can definitely tell a difference in the time it took to bleed the line and the amount of pressure it is now holding.

And NO LEAKS or LOSS OF FLUID, just air in the line.

As a matter of fact I do. Granted not the brake bleed procedure but I own older (I like to refer to them as experienced) vehicles: A 94 Chevy pickup with 190,000mi and a 75 Trans-am with 12,000mi....yes 12,000. I enjoy working on them both and save a lot and gain a lot by doing so. I guess I would prefer to approach the problem differently than you do, and, thats O.K. I hope your way works for you, I know mine works for me.

Why would you bleed the brakes when you replace the pads? Unless you're flushing the lines, there's a leak in the system or you've loosened a line, there's no reason why you'd need to bleed the brakes or add fluid. It doesn't evaporate or get used by the motor. When you replace the pads, just push them in first, pull the old ones off, put the new ones on and go ride.

I'm wondering about what Brian said about replacing the line. I've always been skeptical how it runs along the left side of the bike and it seems to bind in places. It also could be in the fittings on those lines. So to replace a line and the problem stops sounds to be a fix that was appled to '09s. Mines is the original line, and fluid and she stops on a dime.

Always sucks when we have a problem. Of course I would go the route of making sure I don't have bad lines, connections or even a leaking master cylinder before I whine to the govt. We had a little tow vehicle back in the service that no matter what we did the brakes would squeak terrible. Of course the officers bitched from the flight line. After replacing every single part and doing every thing we could find (we did not have the internet back in the early 70's) I took a fine film of grease on my fingers and just lightly ran them over the pads. Checked to make sure it still stopped in the distance it was supposed to and no more complaints. No since writing the govt.
Hope you find what's wrong.

I have a 2008 and am still on the original set of brakes (18K). I have never bled my brakes and so far they work fine.

I also have a '08 and am the second set of brakes with over 30k on the clock. I don't know if the brakes were bled when the new shoes were installed, but I doubt it. Never had a problem.

Are the factory lines on the Vision braided stainless? Having bought my '08 used I don't know what's stock and what isn't. So far no squish, and I'm very familiar with the symptoms and such having owned several not-so-nice bikes and other vehicles over time.

For the most parts pads should last 20 thousand miles.

If your on your second set you should start using the front breaks. They put two breaks up front to stop you so that means the front does 80% of the stopping and the rear is to slow you down

My 08 has braided stainless brake lines with a clear nylon outer covering. It is rubbing against the frame right behind the swing arm and has rubbed through the covering. Got a lot more rubbing to do to get through the stainless steel though. I'll probably change it out this winter for peace of mind.

I have an '09 that I try to ride or at least start it up during the winter months, I also keep it in a dry garage and this year my rear brakes went out also. After bleeding them they are ok. This also happened to my friends 09 about the same time.

Of the past 6 Winters, I've had to bleed the brakes twice on my '08. My neighbor has a hand operated vacuum pump that I borrowed both times. The vacuum pump (about $36 at Harbor Freight) makes the job a breeze, about five minutes at most.

I believe the problem is that the reservoir is located below the calipers. There were some older vehicles (cagers) that had the same problem. They came up with a fix involving check valves to prevent the air bubble.

I hesitate to offer my two cents, but this has been discussed far too many times. First, having been bled properly, if it loses pressure, or gains air, then there is some defect. The trick is to find the defect. There is too little involved here, yet complicated at the same time. My guess would be in the master cylinder, has anyone replaced the master cylinder when this occurred? The other obvious places would be in the lines, or the front or rear calipers. In 5 1/2 years I've never experienced this phenomenon. If it was to occur, something needs replaced, or repaired before riding again.

By the way, I'm on my original fluid. Yeah, yeah, it's past time, I know....

When we bought my dads 09 this past fall, the lack of rear brakes was the first thing I noticed while test riding it. The seller had gotten so used to the questionable brakes that he didn't even notice it anymore, of course the front pads had been doing more work than they should have been. So after getting the bike home we replaced the front pads, bled the rear and no problem so far. Of course in Albuquerque we ride almost year round, and this is particularly true on the vision so they don't get a lot of time to sit.
