From my contacts at Victory:
--------
MEDINA, Minn. (January 22, 2015) ? Victory Motorcycles is taking a bold step into the performance world of NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle Drag Racing with the creation of Victory Factory Racing.

Leading the Victory effort will be the riding team of 2-time world Champion Matt Smith and his wife/co-rider Angie. They have both demonstrated the professionalism, dedication and success that assures Victory a partnership in keeping with the commitment to excellence that is a fundamental part of its DNA. Victory intends to compete at the pinnacle of the sport and anticipates a strong and professional effort with the skills and experience of Matt and Angie Smith.

'Victory is excited to enter the world of NHRA Pro Stock Drag Racing." said Steve Menneto, VP Motorcycles for Polaris. "It is Victory's intent to continue to test ourselves at the highest levels and the Victory Factory Racing Team is the perfect opportunity for us."

The excitement that is created at an NHRA event is a match with the energy that Victory brings to every one of its motorcycles, and will be an opportunity to share that excitement with Victory owners and dealers around the country. Ha! Too cool. As a Army Recruiter I tried to put him boots. However, he wanted to follow his dad in racing, "Tricky" Ricky Smith, 5 time champ.

New Orleans, La,
I'm excited about Polaris/ Victory competing in NHRA Pro Stock Bike for the 2015 season. They were smart to hookup with the Smiths as riders have had success on Suzukis after HD got the NHRA to severely handicap them limiting the engine size to 92-101 c.i.yet allows 160 c.i.for the HD motors. Now will the Victory with its' far superior head design be handicapped also ? NHRA has been known to be more forgiving to those companies products that contribute the most to the NHRA coffers. Will Lloyd Greer be tapped for input, advice, or part design/ tunning help? Hopefully ,if successful, this effort will aid in moving the Victory brand and product line to a more performance oriented line. I can only imagine a Vision 110 c.i. liquid cooled, 17 in. wheeled, performance shod tyre, beefy inverted fork high performance tourer ala BMW GTL.I really hope the Victory factory team hits an out the park homer first time out. Geaux Victory and the Smiths.

New Orleans, La,
Just looked at the NHRA rules for PSB and it states that a V twin can' t exceed an angle of 60 degrees , must have push rod activated valves and only two valves per cylinder as of the 2013 rules changes. So is Victory going to run an Indian engine under Gunner clothes? Did Polaris pay the " pimp fee" to the NHRA/ V&H to construct new rules so that Victory can field a racing variant of the Freedom 4 valve ohc engine in PSB for 2015? The announcement of Victory joining NHRA PSB , at least for me, more questions than the announcement answered. I guess I'll just stay tune. Same Polaris time. Same Polaris channel. Hmmmm.

Which means that Victory is just a sponsor getting advertising. Too bad. I would have liked to see what they could do with a Victory mill.

Under current NHRA rules, a Victory engine is not allowed. The rules have been set up to give the harley's, especially the v-rod, a big edge. From other sites, Victory is working to build an engine that NHRA will accept, hopefully by 2016.

I know that is correct. The current rules remind me of the old Nascar rules that outlawed the Ford 427 Cammer and the Chrysler 426 Hemi because the other guys couldn't keep up. It was BS then and it's BS now.

Victory should be working on getting NHRA to accept the Victory engine.

If Harley wants to play with themselves, let 'em. If Harley is scared to take on the Victory engine, let 'em play with themselves. There should be an open V-Twin class where everybody can compete regardless of the head design or cam actuation. That's how we learn and achieve better performance through design.

The HDs are not technically legal in NHRA because all the parts have to be made available to the public. Vance&Hines will not sell those motors to the public but since HD is such a large sponsor they they them cheat... kinda sucks for everyone else...

Its going to coast Polaris a good 50 thousand dollars per race if not more. I drought that Polaris will see any increase in sales for a good two or three years.
Polaris must have to mush money and need away to write off a bunch

Racing has always been a part of what sells, it's brand recognition. I think this is a good move, and since Victory has saved tons of money from minimal advertisement over the past 16 years, this is long overdue. I suspect this will also lay some groundwork for an Indian racing team, with it's own modified V-Twin. I would be concerned because they are using an S&S motor for racing, but any race engine they use is not the one you buy at the dealer. Far from it. Save that kind of stuff for your local track. Matt's dad, Ricky, would get GM blocks from the factory to build and put in his Pontiac. But everything else was machined or aftermarket, so essentially it was just Pontiac in name. Same with NASCAR or any other national level race. What sales across the finish line is Victory!

NHRA rules have changed alot over the last 5 years. There are no OHC V twins allowed since they banned the Vance and Hines "Vrods" that had DOHC 4 valve engines and were winning almost every race two seasons ago. Now all V twins must be pushrod engines with pushrods a minimum length of 8 inches. V twins can displace 160 cu inches. Four cylinder engines of Suzuki design can be I believe 107 inches now but must be 2 valve and DOHC. Kawasaki based engines can have 4 valve heads but at a smaller displacement. No one has qualified a kawasaki based engine in years. All the Vtwin engines now except for Vance and Hines run S&S G2 engines built by Star Racing. They also build alot of the Suzuki based engines.

I am a big fan of NHRA Pro Stock and none of the engines or their parts are based on stock designs. These are all billet racing engines no matter whether it says HD, Buell, Victory or Suzuki on the side of the bike. Vance and Hines builds most of the engines in Pro Stock, no matter if you are running a HD, Zook, or a Buell. Pro Stocks make about 380 HP, lift the valves about an inch off the seats and run through the lights at about 10,000 RPM for a two cylinder over 15,000 for a 4 cylinder. Valve springs last about 25 runs or so. As good as Lloyd Greer is for street, I'm afraid he'd be in way over his head when trying to get a stock Victory to stay in one piece while running big cubic inches at high RPM. Triumph had an entry maybe two years ago that used the same S&S motor with a backwards firing order. Pro Stock Harleys are in no way shape or form a Harley that you can buy or put together with Screaming Eagle parts. These are one off creations from Byron Hines and if your name isn't Andrew Hines or Eddie Krawiec, you aren't getting near one.

Vance and Hines builds the Suzuki and V-rod motors for NHRA pro stock. The buells use S & S motors. I've never seen an Vance and Hines v-twin engine, not saying that they could possibly build one, but that last time I checked, all the buells ran S & S.
