you can't lean over onto the tip overs with out crashing no matter what tire you have.
You guys that say bad things about the CT how can you never have tried it.
I have 20 thousand on my CT and still scrap floor boards and ride hard.
We have baggers that aren't made for extreme cornering yes we lean and scrap boards but there is nothing ells to scrap.
I think you guys that don't like the CT is cause you don't like the fact we pay $125 for a tire and you pay $250

Fyi, I have left so much metal on the asphalt from the tipovers that I have had to bring out a file to pull the lip of sharp metal that curls up from both front and rear on both sides. I may just have to replace them if I go much further. Yes you can length the bike over that far without crashing. There was even mention of one of the victory cop demo bike guys that was trying to get the bike to basically slide on the tipovers and throw some power to the rear and twist the handlebars to right It. Now that id like to see. Not bashing just looking for info.

I got grind marks on my tip-overs and I don't even try to grind them.  When it comes to car tires I have determined:

  1. They are not for me on a motorcycle in everyday use.
  2. I have been blessed with the funds to always get tires when I need them.
  3. I have always been blessed with the time and strength to change my tires at regular intervals.
  4. The skill of the rider has more to do with the actions of the bike.
  5. Perception has a lot to do with feeling safe.  Motorcycling is inherently more dangerous than riding in a car.
  6. I don't have to try it see if I like or not.  There's many things I will not try just to see if I like it.  I coud go on here, but I would digress.
  7. E3s have never given me the feeling many has described.
  8. I do not want a different feeling than the E3s.
  9. I've scruntized every post and article I could read on using a car tire on a motorcyle, to include by those self-proclaimed experts.  I feel my decision for me is a very educated and informed decision.
  10. I wish everybody total enjoyment on their ride, even if you're using a stone wheel.

I don't have an opinion on the car tire debate because I've never run one on my bike.

However, I also do not pay $250 for a motorcycle tire. These have proven to be as good as the Dunlop E3 in my experience. Currently shipped for $120.33 http://www.amazon.com/Shinko-SE890-Journey-Touring-Radial/dp/B0068C...

I'm not one to want to do this, but I have done it a while back.  The orange mark was a barrel on the WVA turnpike.  Btw, on the scrapes the floorboards were pushed up hard.  I've go fringe on the boards now so it would be harder to see at the moment.

Mine look similar. I'll see if I can get a pic for you. Unless vahesgotmybackinagoodwayryders pics suffice. I don't post many pics here cause I never too the time to learn. Oh yeah he didn't crash. I did it a lot in the msf course at 20+ mph and never crashed. Unsure how we got off car tires, I was merely inquiring and now I'm posting pics of my underside. Please keep them PG.

Hey Chickenpoco, I need me one of those bater cards. Where can I get one or dos? I'm actually good to about 190,000, but that'll be in just under a year.

Front and back. Both sides are equally worn, but I only took pics of one side.
You can definitely feel a difference when you go from scraping floorboards to tipovers. The floorboards just scrape and float along, the tipovers feel like they're going to dig in at any moment.

The problem I have with E3s, is that the sidewall wears out long before the center strip does. This is the 2nd front E3 that this has happened to me.

That tire looks like mine at 23,000 miles on the front. I hope you got similar mileage. That should have been changed 1,500 miles ago.

Nozzledog go dark side front. Check bottom lined. install ¤t miles and I still have 15K left at least. Run 40 PSI to keep the outer edge down.

I was on the darkside for about 65k and loved it and swore I would never put a mt back on unless I was out somewhere and needed tires which happened on the Tail of the Dragon last year. I ride my vision like a sport bike every chance I get to. The only draw back with a ct I've had is that tire pressure can be more picky as the tire wears out and when the tire is worn out from alot of hard cornering the bike becomes less stable with less than perfect roads. My only thing I would say to someone wo is riding on the darkside is the handling on your bike changes any from what your used to no matter what the tread looks like on the tire it is time for a new one.

With all of the controversy I decided the only way to decide was try it. Cumho 190/55-16 Walmart $97. Harbor freight bead breaker and 2 tire irons. did it myself. Other than better wear I don't notice any difference. run 35 psi cold. I'm getting too old for that aggressive stuff so it suits me just fine. I also went with Bridgestone battleax 140/70R-18. That I really like. It looks like it fits the bike better, bigger. Some sites list it as a rear tire but I have seen other sites list it as front or rear. Not sure what I'll do when the rear wears out but the 140 on the front stays from now on.

Where did you get the 140/70R-18 (R=radial)? I am running a 140/70-V18, BT-45 rear (Bias Ply). Got about 37K on it and the outer edges show wear from cornering. [not as bad as the E3 did though & only 13K miles on them] There is a front 140/70-18 but it is a lower speed rating. I was never able to find a Bridgestone Battleax 140/70-18 that was a RADIAL.

Bridgestone makes the BT-54 in the 140/70R-18. It is a rear tire, but it should work if you turn it around.
