Hello All

Over the past few days I have been tinkering around installing a zumo on my 09 ViVi... that and hundred other things in preparation of our Oregon Coast trip leaving Weds morning... I HOPE!!

Anyway, very long story made longer, while doing a little cleanup work on the wiring when the live + and - wires shorted with the bike on. it appears to have knocked out the left fuse box... no stereo, panel lights, gps, etc.

I would normally just start looking at fuses in the hopes that they did their job andf nothing is fried, but, I am hoping that someone can guide me directly to a solution as I REALLY don't have the time to de-snag as we are soon supposed to leave.... and my local Victory Dealer is 3.5 hours away in a different direction and the next closest sort of on the way is a ferry ride away...

Is my trip cancelled or can anyone guide me through a fix?

PLEASE Help!! Thanks in advance!!

Are you saying you have not looked at the fuses? That'd be my first action.

It's most likely a fuse and all the INOP things are on a parallel branch. I did a similar thing replacing the front speakers and messing around with the radio. I blew a fuse, the fuse box is detailed the it was easy to find

Yes, fuses were the first thing that I thought of as well, all the fuses that I have found all checked out to be serviceable... I am on to looking at relays...

There is a 40 amp breaker you might want to check. It is inline between the battery and the fuse panel.

Here is a pic of where it is located. It is the only thing that I can think of that would knock out all the items you listed earlier.

... and yes, this does knock out a bunch of things... I had to change this once already... while riding I would all of a sudden loose all power...

Do you have a test light to use instead of a voltmeter? Without a load on the circuit (current flow)the voltage can fool you. If you can test for power with a 12v test light at both sides of the breaker and each of the fuses with the key on I should be able to narrow down your issue. It concerns me that you have 15-16 volts-is that running, hooked up to a charger or just key on?

Johnnyvision, that breaker is inline to the fuseblocks. Check your wiring diagram. It knocks out everything in case of a short.

GericaRM, which side of the breaker are you testing? If the breaker is open then you shouldn't get anything on the side going up to the fuse block. If you are, then you need to check where the wires are coming into the fuse block and that the breaker is fine. Next would be to start checking fuses again. I would be real concerned if you have 15-16 volts coming out of the breaker to the fuse block. I'm assuming the bike was running when you took that reading because you shouldn't get 15-16 volts anywhere, but coming out of the alternator to the regulator. If you have 15-16 volts coming into the fuse blocks then your regulator is bad and you are fixing to have a lot more problems real soon. Also like you have already seen, if that breaker is open, the bike will not start as it supplies the fuse block that has the ignition circuit fuse.

If all else checks out fine, the last culprit in the circuit that you lost power on is the chassis electrical relay on the right side fuse block. It's possible that the relay could be stuck open after the short.
