Tampa, Fl United States | Installed the timing wheel last week on my 2009 Vision 10th Year Anniversary (this is my newer bike not listed)
1. Very easy to do (30 min) if you change your own oil u can do this
2. Best bang for the buck (not counting the 1/4 throttle ring) due to waking up the bike (a noticeable difference)
3. Gas mileage increased by 4 mpg
This upgrade works best with VFC Controllers due to they have no timing adjustments.
Mine is set @ 4 degrees and no ping with 93 octane
I have both intakes, exhaust, reprogrammed ECU, & VFC
Stock Cams
Now my question is to all who have done this upgrade w/stock cams gone higher in advance?
I know every bike is different, but without a dyno is it worth going up a degree or two???

| Rylan at the vic shop sets the wheel at +3 he says vision runs best there.
I run mine at +3 with 89 octane gas and no pinging. When it gets above 95 degrees I use 91 octane gas.
93 octane gas can cause varnish buildup on valves |

Mechanicsville, VA United States | I have a 08 with cams and PCV and auto tune and Arlen Ness top air filter and the timing wheel set at 2.5+ and it pings with 91 octane on hot summer days. I've been thing about selling it, the vision just doesn't need or at least mine doesn't. |

Broken Arrow, OK | For me, the problem with any of these performance mods is that I get used to them too quick, lol.
I had hot weather issues with pinging while set at +4. I'm now running +2 but I removed my top filter because I didn't like the extra noise it caused.
Cams, PCV, timing wheel, AutoTune and I can't remember how the bike ran before these things were done!
I'll probably pull the timing wheel out one of these days and just run the stock one again, then maybe I'll feel what difference it made. |

I started at +4, on hot days riding double it pinged, lowered to +2 and got better but still pinged. I ended up removing it, bike feels the same and no pinging. Maybe I didn't have VFC tuned exactly right or something. |

Georgia, west of Atlanta | Mine is set at +4, works well BUT it has a PC-5 and was tuned on a dyno by Kyle Crandal of KMC. The AFR is an almost perfect 13.8 to 1 across the board. No detonation. |

I'm in Florida w/90 degree+ weather and have no ping, hearing the above info I should stay @ 4 degree advance. |

Rylan put the cams and VFCIII on my Vision and they work great.
It pulls ahead of GL1800 Goldwings from 40 MPH in 5th up to 100 MPH, at which point it just runs off and leaves them far behind. It pulls stronger than a Goldwing from 2000 RPM up to 4500 RPM, at which point it wakes up and really runs off and leaves them.
I'll keep my VFCIII, thank you.

Ronnie +1 Rylan also did my install with cams, VFCIII, etc. He told me that I might squeeze a tiny bit more HP out of bike with PCV, but not much. Maybe the poster above is referring to the raised rev limit (that I think can be done with the PCV), but I took care of that with Lloyd's reprogramming of my ECU...and that IS needed with cams. HP 120 @ 5900 RPM and Torque 117 ft. lbs @ about 4600 RPM (113 ft lb @ 2800 RPM) As to the OP's question regarding timing wheel...started at 4, slight ping in HOT weather, backed it down to 2, re-dyno'd, lost about 2-3 ft lbs, lost NO HP.

Jasper, MO | I also have Lloydz reprogrammed ECU with the 6400 RPM limiter in all 6 gears, one of the early ones he did on an exchange basis. No timing wheel as of yet. I'm not real sure I would benefit from one because I was told by Lloydz that the reprogram already included 2 degrees advance. I know the bike picked up low end torque with the reprogram. I got the ECU after doing the cams, so I have a definite before and after comparison.
