Fountain Inn, SC United States | For those that have added a outboard amplifier and located it on the top of the gas tank, have you had any issues with it getting wet from rain?
I'm specifically asking about those of you who've used the Rockford Fosgate PBR300 amp. I've had mine installed in the left hard bag but am considering moving it the the gas tank but am concerned with it getting wet.

Grand Cane, LA | Jeff, I don't think the RF PBR300 is waterproof, maybe water resistant. I had the Alpine one on the Vision I had and there was very little room left in there with that one, but that one was waterproof. If you could get it to fit, you would probably have to come up with some kind of shielding to keep water from getting into the ends especially the side where the wires connect. I noticed mine would only really get wet when you ran through a downpour. Not much water actually gets in there from the top just from the front when riding in the rain. |

Fountain Inn, SC United States | Yes, I was casually thinking I might plasti-dip the amp then carefully cut off the dip so as to keep the ends intact. Then re-suse the ends as "caps" after adding a wire slit to each. Just thinking aloud.

You might want to see how hot the amp runs at the volume level you run it at. Amps usually have large sections of aluminum heat sinks on the sides to dissipate the heat generated by the power transistors or FET's. You minimize cooling with the plasti-dip and possibly shorten the life of the amp. I would seal the seams with RTV silicone if water damage is a concern. |

Ruskin, Fl | My Alpine had been working for 3 years on top of the tank. After 6 months I had trouble. Not sure if moisture or what. I ride in some pretty heavy rain. Anyway, the multi-pin plug was corroded. Can't buy it so I ran a power wire directly to the circuit board. I have photos someplace if anybody wants to see. Recently started sounding like complete crap. Not sure if the amp is dying or what. Really want the PB300 but hate to lose the saddlebag space. I have a plan to put in a divider and a fan. Would love other options. By the way, nothing much bigger than that Alpine will fit on top of the gas tank. |

Ruskin, Fl | I am sure leaning that way! Already wired. Except fro the 12V positive I soldered directly to the board. It will be a ten-minute job. I have a spared speaker grill to mess up. Going to try 6.5" up front while on vacation in June. |

Pittsburgh, PA | Cw1115, let me tell you.... it's so worth it to have the 6.5 up front .... I have kickers speakers front and rear ... and as you know the Alpine amp allowed you to have a bass filter front and rear. I can allow the front to have more bass and it handles it with No problem !. Unlike the rear 5.25 kickers where I had to turn the bass filter to block more low end .. I have kicker KS series up front.. I did this because of price and more importantly sensitivity rating

Ruskin, Fl | I had the Kickers from the dealer (5.25" for a week and sold them. Put in Polk MM 521. Ditched the speaker boxes and used foam baffles. I have had 2 crap out already. And I currently have the fader all the way to front cause I think the MM 521s in rear are bad. Ugh. I'm so ready for 6.5!
How do you mod speaker grill for the bigger speaker? Il going to attempt the mod the guy did with the white JBLs, but bondo/glass work is not something I'm good at. |

Navarre, FL | Mine has ridden on the top of the left tank for 5 years. I have never had an issue with water,all though I have blown one up from cranking it too loud for too long. I just used double sided sticky tape to mount. Even in driving rain not much water gets up there. I did use waterproof connectors. |

Pittsburgh, PA | Btw I had to remove my baffles (foam baffles) they made me rear speakers sound like they were blown !! I was just about ready to buy new rear speakers when I tested them again without the baffles and they sound great !! The bafflesmade the woofer "jump" a lot more there for giving the sound that they were blown .. "distorted " |

, OH | Jeff I did a huge write up on amp installs and on the left tank. I have 3 fosgate 400's on the bike, one on the tank with no issues. If you are unsure you can get a flat piece of 1/8 plexi slightly larger than the amp heat it and bend the right side downward to make a wide "L" piece. Use some peel n stick feet under it and put it on top of the amp to make a rain guard yet not an air flow blocker. it will keep any water out of the area. But for a side note I was in a torrential down pour from Cleveland to Columbus ohio, just SOLID rain and never turned down the music. Never had an issue. Jeb has the pbr300 there as well and he is a hard core rider. no issues.
