I have changed maybe 3 lightbulbs on the Visionquest but I was never able to do it by the book. I always pealed away the layers of the front end like an onion until I could pull the whole headlight assembly. Saturday, I was determined to do the Houdini magic trick where you pull the air filter and blindly reach up and in manipulating the old bulb out and the new one in. I did ok until time to reapply the spring clip. I couldn't imagine in my head how to secure the clip back in place. I even went in the house to see if there was a how-to video on youtube. No one has made a youtube on the headlight change and this ordeal has been plaguing Vision riders for 8 years!? So , I went back out to the bike, did a lot of praying and cursing, usually in the same breath. Finally, I got the clip to stick.  The whole deal probably took me an hour  but I'm proud to say , thank the Lord, I did it!

I have decided, if another bulb blows, instead of changing it , it would be easier to just trade the bike in for another one    I really hope it's a long time before I have to do that again.

There is another part of this trick I noticed you didn't mention. Did you adjust the headlight adjustment all the way up? It gives your hands more room back there because now the assembly will be tilted down on the backside. It's a pain I know, but every bit of room helps.

Glad to hear you can change the headlights in just an hour. After replacing one last summer and having it burn out within a month, I switched to LED bulbs and hopefully won't ever have to replace a bulb. Like the light pattern much better as well.

it's been so long since I've had to change a headlight. The crazy thing is they are the cheaper ones that were on sale at the time. Just prior to that I was changing them like candy because they would only last for about 6 months or so. I thing it would take me about an hour, blind, adjusting the light up and removing the air filter.

Let's see if I can paste/click in here. http://www.vision-riders.com/bb/forums/get-attachment.asp?attachmen... found the post with the picture of the OPT7 LED lights I used here but I don't seem to be able to copy pics like I'd like to. I don't remember the exact cost but they were under a $100 and well worth it to me. I'll add the caveat that, of course, LED's probably work better if the lens is built/designed specifically for LED's but they're still far better than the stock bulbs in my opinion.

If the above link doesn't take you to it, it's in the same forum we're in now..Vision Discussion under alternative headlights.
