Doesn't putting this filter in defeat the cold air intake of the bike? I would imagine the air getting sucked in from this filter would be hot vs the cooler air coming in the front. Doesn't cooler air = more HP?

it doesn't have a cold air injection . an air filter up front does not make for a cold air injection ..

More air plus more fuel also = more HP.

The front filter is still in operation. The top filter adds more air flow to the total. A fuel controller and/or an ECU remap adds more fuel to go with it. Result is more HP. It works.

If you just add the extra air filter to allow more air intake with out having the fuel flow increased, you will create a lean condition that will cause the engine to run hot. With the increased air intake something is needed to also increase the fuel flow, ie Fuel Controller or ECU adjustment. As in a previous statement, more air, more fuel equals more HP. Adjust to keep your Air/Fuel ratio with in guidelines and all is good. Actually your motor will run cooler. When cruising along with the extra HP, you can adjust your throttle so that your fuel consumption will remain close to the same as before the air filter and fuel controller was added. But being tame on the throttle is just no fun.
