I was at the Dealer and he told me I would need a key blank from them to get another key cut for my bike.. The blanks were $25.00

I went into a local lock smith shop, he said the key blank was a Kawasaki blank, and they were 2.50.

Anyone else have suggestions?

Just had one made a week ago from a lock smith - its a KW14- $4.75 including the cut. My dealer was $15 just for the blank; told him to keep it-
I don't understand the dealer mentality on stuff like this. Drives me away and pushes me to do business with others.

Is it really the dealers mentality or is it what they have to pay Victory for. I was looking at gettng new spark plug wires and as the dealer was looking them up in the computer I was looking at the newest catalog. I was told the stock wires where $24.95 each, yet I was looking at the color ones as $24.95 as the set. I never said nothing except "never mind", but it was not the dealer pricing these, it is Victory. Just my yakkity, yak...

I hear ya- don't know the answer, but it seems like a lot of inconsistency and lack of common sense most times.

In my yakkity opinion, it is still the dealers fault. To keep a loyal, happy Victory customer he should have the Victory key hanging in the display case, but he should also have a box of Kaw blanks under the counter to keep his customers riding at a reasonable cost. I believe a dealers loyalty should be with the customer, not the supplier. I am sure there are franchise rules, as well as ways around rules. Just say'in.

I agree on what you are saying, but we can't run their business for them. It is indeed the personal things that make the difference but they've got to look past the book.

not their fault. it is our fault. just like when your girlfriend or wife pays 100.00 for a 12 dollar haircut or 250.00 for a 20 dollar piece of cloth with a zipper. capitalist economy. if they charge 100.00 and you pay it it is a fair price. educated consumers, personal responsibility are the key. so thanks to desert jim and whinchey for edumacatin' us. the system works.

Probably, the $25 blank was the long one with the fancy Victory head on it, like your original is. If you don't need that, then a universal KW-14 blank, that sells for a couple of bucks, will work just fine, but it will probably be just a short plain metal one at that price.

I only got one key with my bike, and tried to buy another one. Dealer wanted $25.00 and said asid they couldn't get the nice head like the one that I got. I picked up the plain blank, and went to the lock smith. He said it was simular to a Kaw key, but not long enough. He had a blank thet he cut, and ground the end down. Works perfect, but ugly to look at. Cost with tax, $5.42. I would still like to get a nice victory key with the medalion on it. Any one know where I can find one????????

This is insane. All dealers should have blanks and at a reasonable price. I had an extra key made for my Harley (it's one of those round keys...like a Pepsi machine) figured I would need a loan for it. Turned out to be $6.00. Not that bad. This should be dealer 101. Sounds like the factory is not supporting the dealers enough. They will have to improve on the small things such as this in order to take Victory to the next level. They've done their homework on the design now they must bone up on the little things that riders expect from the dealers. All in time.
