I was wondering if anybody has had this happen to them. I have a 08 VV. I just returned from Tucson to Calif. About 70miles from the house, the small panel that sits below the radio controls, came off when i was riding through a windy area. Dealer had never heard that problem. Mechanic looked at panel, seemed fine to him. Popped it back on. Average temp was about 106, with high about 113-115. Could the high temps cause the panel to get soft? Still concerned that it might come off again. Thanks for any help.

Sounds more like it wasn't properly installed the last time.

I had an issue where the right corner was coming up..my dealer replaced the rubber grommets..and a foam strip underneath to make it fit tighter..no issues since.

I would have said the same thing yesterday. However, last night I needed to take mine off to remove the seat and it felt like it was laying there when I pulled up on it. It seems the grommets are getting a little loose. The thing is, if it is not properly installed it is obvisious as it will not fit or line up with th other panels.

Check the metal studs that hold the panel on to verify they are in the right location. It can be confirmed by holding the panel upside down right next to it.

I also have an 08 and had this happen 2 weeks ago. I was needing to make time so I was hauling along at about 80mph. All was fine till I was getting hot so I angled the air deflectors in to blow air on me instead of away.......panel popped right off inside of about 2 miles.

Put it back on....same thing. After doing this about 5 times I finally thought enough to just toss in in the trunk.

Dealer gave me new grommets.....so far so good. I will say the old ones felt and looked fine....but the new ones felt much tighter when I put them in.

Thanks to all. I will see the dealer and ask for some new grommets. The ones now seem fine, but who knows.

Me and my dealer talked about it and we decided that if the grommets didnt fix it that we would both be ok with me smearing a littlle silicone on the grommets to hold the panel down. Should still come apart easily but it would hopefully add just enough adhesion to keep things together. Its not like you need in there daily.....and worse you would have to do is replace the grommets if you took it apart.....but likely the would be reusable.
