Cary, NC | For anyone interested, there is a place on the Blue Ridge Parkway about 8.5 miles from Fancy Gap, VA called Grassy Creek Cabooses. They have 3 cabooses on the side of a hill. Each one has a queen size bed, private bath, eating area, cable tv, and a 2 person jacuzzi tub. The price is only $95.00 a night and everything is great. Only about a mile off the BRP. You can find it at grassycreekcabooses.com Well worth the money. |

Cary, NC | I like the look of these rentals but I still like the solitude of the ones that we go to. We are able to get on the Blue Ridge Parkway and travel to either Boone, NC or Roanoak, Va in about 3 hours. |

It's not MY Loose Caboose! I just want to stay there someday, but was wondering just how many other CABOOSE INNS there are in the U.S./Canada? You know - start a WHERE HAVE ALL THE CABOOSES GONE thread ....

Bay of Gigs, WA | Donetracy: Those cabooses you mention are at the base of Discovery Bay, I believe. Some of the best scooter roads on the planet, IMHO, weather permitting. There's a helluva hamburger joint across the street that'll put you in the cardiac unit tonight, should you choose to eat the big one. It oughtta be on Man Vs. Food, instead of that filthy dive in Seattle he went to with the 12 egg omelette, Beths. (The Crab Pot's okay, my Mom liked it, but a better place is in Tacoma, the Harbor Lights, 90 years old or better, on pilings over the Puget Sound, where, for $35 you can get a plate of fried crab legs that are serious cardio-cloggers. Hey, ya gotta die of something, right?)

I was down your way a few times this last summer - did a tour of the Olympic Peninsula and San Juan Island. I have a 'freebie' place at Lake Samish for anytime use, so I kinda use that for overnighting. You're right, Brian - best scooter roads on the planet - been riding them for 50+ years. Utah comes close. Maui is fun. Eastern mountains ok. Florida is DISMAL, eastern pavement is awful, California is too hot. Oregon also not bad - just not many roads. OK - now I've done it .... created a 'My Roads Are Better Than Your Roads' thread - YIKES !  |

Bay of Gigs, WA | BTW, Don, nice vid. Did you happen to get irritated that the Geoduck Tavern HAS NO GEODUCK? I mean, SHEESH! Also, too bad the Whistling Oyster in Quilcene went bust. They have a half dozen real regulation shuffleboard tables that are awesome to play, and they're still in the building. Those things are a century old, and the old timers up there can make their pucks back up and turn around, they're so good! Just be sure and remove your caulks before you go in! One of the last old fashioned plank-floored taverns from the logging era, it's for sale, and it's a great business opportunity if you're independently wealthy...
