As for the Doran, as long as the monitor is on it will receive updates from the sensors every 6 minutes whether the bike is moving or not. The key is to wire the monitor so it is on all the time. In other words, don't wire it to a switched source. The amount of current it consumes in standby mode is near nothing, 30 Ma to be exact. So, when you check your pressures after the bike has sat overnight as an example, they will be at the most 6 minutes old.

For me this thing has saved me having to worry if the pressures are too low particularly when I'm too lazy or in too much of a rush to get down on the floor to check them. The system they are using for alerts is also quite well thought out. You might want to take a look at the info on their website. It's really very impressive as to how much thought they put into this design. I also really like the idea that if I'm in the middle of nowhere with all my gear and wife aboard and pick up a nail the system is going to alert me to it way before my ass does so I can get somewhere to get it fixed. Besides, its cheap insurance.

in order for these to be useful to ME, i need them to be able to view the air pressure BEFORE im about to ride for the day. and from what i have been reading from reviews on amazon.com people said the numbers you get on the unit is from the past ride, Until you get moving again.. and personally i dont want to get on the bike ride it a few miles and THEN find out i need to add air and have to come back home to do so. unless this is NOT how it works.. basically from what i read, the bike needs to be in motion in order to activate the sensors, therefor not allowing you to check the air pressure in "real time" by just sitting in your garage.

viclvr - 2012-01-30 4:37 PM Has anyone had experience with these? I am considering the investment and am looking to other Vision pilots for their input. Best brand/model etc. Thanks in advance to all! Ride on!

Eric,

Did you end up buying a TPMS?

I bought the  Enhanced TireGard TPMS 2 Wheel + Trailer   in Dec of 2011 for $159, now I see it went up to $179.

I tested the TPMS out on the car, seemed to work well. I still need to install metal valve stems on the motorcycle & trailer wheels.

I have been very happy with the key fob style TPMS. First of all, to my knowledge NONE of the TPMS are constant, real time monitoring. Your batteries in the tire sensors would not last very long if that were true. THey all give info at 5-10 min intervals, and most have alerts for loss of air in real time.

I check my tire pressure before every ride now as it is so easy. Just turn it on, move the bike a bit and warm up the engine. By that time I have my pressure. I keep it in the glovebox for access easily. I'm not so worried about getting a loss of air alarm. So this works well for me. But on a couple of occasions I have mounted it as KansasGuardsman. As for tire temp I could care less. I've been riding since I was 14 and have never even thought about tire temp. So why get my panties in a wad about it now? Global Warming? LOL

And yes, I would by the Fob TPMS again. But I might consider the companies new square one instead. For $160 it is worth every penny.

On another note, I have a black and decker electric air pump with guage and auto shut off at a pressure you set. Every couple of months I just hook it up and let 'er go. Easy Peasy!

I was reading the monitoring capabilities of these systems and was curious as to what the settings would be Low/High pressure and Tire Temp? I am leaning toward purchasing the Tire SafeGuard system.
