Noticed on a post for 09 Vision for sale the seller listed a Mastiff dip-stick with seat screw....I have a Mastiff and wonder what the hell a "seat screw" is...never heard of it before...just curious, thanks....

Maybe the base for the dipstick screws into the block like the factory dipstick?

I thot a 'dipstick' was a really bad, useless person, with too much to say.

Are you trying to suggest it is something else?

As I recall, the Mastiff dipstick is made up of 2 pieces (top/bottom). Could they have meant a "set screw" that holds them together?

For those that don't know, "MASTIFF" is the handle of a great guy from the VMC (not sure he's still on there though) that lives is northern NY and has some machining skills. He raises mastiff dogs (hence his name) and has been know to have crazy weekend camping parties with huge bonfires, streaking people, and a few alcoholic beverages. Many early Victory owners have made the pilgrimage. Not sure he still has the parties but their lore still lives on.

Frank Ames (Mastiff) also holds the Guinness Book record for longest eyebrow hair.

Maybe more than you wanted to know.

Probably meant "set screw". As has been mentioned, they are two piece and held together with a set screw. Mine's a Bodfish Customs made by another former VMC member (Vikeme) (Sam) from Bodfish, California back in the day. If you want to, you can loosen the set screw after the dipstick has been seated in the hole and turn the dial to whatever position you want, then reset the screw.

OH !   So Frank Mastiff is a dipstick because he drinks a lot, invents wierd screws, breeds scary dogs and has long eyebrows. Got it.

It made for easier seat removal for TC's. You could unscrew using your hand vs getting a socket on the acorn nut normally holding the seat in place. This was located underneath the luggage rack, so getting wrenches in there was difficult, but you could reach in with your hand easily. He sold these for $10 and they were a Godsend! Dipsticks are great too. Transferred mine from my TCD to my VVTP after repainting the grooves.

Had the seat screw on my TC. Worked well but check often to ensure it is tight. Mastiff dipstick looks great but it is hot as Hades if you try and check your oil after running for any length of time. Also, with new oil it is very hard to see the level on the dipstick as the light color disappears on the bright aluminum. However, it also is a great tool if you ever need to shank someone!
