Well I made an appt at my local dealer and when I arrived they said I had to wait about 2hrs before they could get to me. I was a bit peeved since that's why I made an appointment. So I decided screw it I'll do it myself. I'm a pretty mechanically inclined person but when it comes to oil changes I just get lazy and let the dealers do them, especially since the parts cost equals almost as much as the dealer doing it and I don't have to deal with oil disposal. But anyway I decided the heck with it I'll do it myself. Really surprised just how super easy it was to do. I'm used to some of my other bikes where you have to take all kinds of crap apart to do it.

I actually just popped into Autozone and picked up a Mobil 1 filter (thanks to that hand xref that was posted here earlier) and got the Valvoline Synthetic oil (20-50w) and changed it out. I looked at the Mobil 1 oil but could not find where it said it was JASO MA certified where the Valvoline did so that is what I chose. I really like the synthetic it really quieted down some of, what I consider, to be some really unnatural sounds the motor tends to make. The motor is so much quieter now and I just hear the nice rumble from the exhaust, a very pleasant surprise. Rode it today for the first time since my trip and it's silky smooth, no motor funky motor noise and the shifting is definitely improved. Definitely recommend and no clutch slipping that I can tell anyway.

Now I just have to order the cover plate so I can take the top box off for some cool cruiser style looks when I'm not touring with it...

While it is at least arguable, I think anyone who rides a motorcycle change their own oil. The moment of intimacy with man and machine will add another level to your hobby, sport, or way of life.

I'm always glad to see people take part in the mainanace of their bikes. However people need not confuse an oil change with a service. There is a lot more to do then just changing the fluid and filter. Check your book, and do the whole job.

A man of true wisdom of the ways of motorcycles.  Changing oil and filter is of the basic of tasks taking care of ones machine.  There are indeed many points of potential failure, and being one who pushes the envelop of neglect, will attest that a once of prevention is worth way more than a pound or two of cure.  Use the book, something I instilled in all my mechanics during my tour in the Army.

Totally agree. I went over the bike to ensure all was well. Check fluids, common areas for loose bolts (exhaust, hangers, etc), belt drive, headset, cables, tire pressure, etc... Gonna be headed out on another road trip here soon and still trying to decide which bike to take. Of course either one will be gone through before I leave...

+1... The best "accessory" that I have purchased yet for my Vision is the Service Manual. I use it often and even keep a CD copy in the trunk, just in case I am ever stuck having to get work done on the road at a non Victory dealer.

If I had the time, I would drive to Florida every 4 months and have Kevin do my SERVICE. But I don't - so the local dealer has the honor of my visits, and I am sure they appreciate my MONEY. And the time I save NOT doing my own SERVICE - I spend with my gorgeous young Co-Pilot. LIFE IS GOOD!!!

I have a video on oil changes and do every time. My Classic 2008 Vision has a 2500 Mile change interval.

I still let the dealer service the Vision.....I just like changing the oil.

PhantomX, I think the Vision is one of the easiest vehicles to change the oil on that I have ever owned. The Mobil 1 must say JASO MA on it someplace or I wouldn't be using it. I have an extra cover in black fo an "08. If that will work for you make me an offer and we'll meet in Tampa one day.

Sweet what color?

Good to the Mobil 1 is compliant cause the. Ottos didn't have that spec spelled out. The valvoline did. Both are good so I'm happy either way.
