just did an oil change for the trip to AVR and thinking I had 5 qts to play with I only had 4 and a little in the 5th, registers just a hair above the first mark, I'm thinking I'm alright to go but get a little anal about this kind of stuff, should be fine, any comments? Marty

I think your alright as well. I do my own oil changes and typically use 4.5 qts with the filter changed as well.

unless it is extremly hot or ride extremly hard, I think you're okay as well. However, I always have a "taste" of oil around just in case I need to add a little. I figure if I buy 5 quarts every time, I will eventually have a "free" oil change minus the filter.

If I had not have changed the filter 4 qts would have been sufficient, but I feel the filter more important than the oil, oh well, I'm going with 4 in it.

Get as close to 4 1/2 as you can

So why is the Polaris oil change kit so many quarts? I just had my oil changed by a home town shop and was kinda freaked out that they only needed 4 liters with a filter change. Comments?

Unless I'm missing something I thought everything was in quarts.  Also, you'll find 6 quarts because that was how polaris sold them in the pre-victory days for the ATVs, or so I'm told.

I use a partial quart to flush 'residue' from the crankcase after I have drained the intial oil. I keep the oil level at the recomended level.

The early Victory bikes, like my Sport Cruiser, take six quarts per change, so the kits contain six quarts. The later bikes take 4 1/2 quarts.
