| Hey everyone! Been gone for quite some time. Between work family and getting hurt and having surgery last year I had to take some time off of the bike for a while.
I went for a ride the other day and thought my right leg was going to burn off! The heat from the engine and the pipe was almost too much to bare. And that was through my Jeans and cowboy boots!
The bike is pretty well stock except for the RPW exhaust.
Has there been any updates on what we can do to get the heat from the engine under control?
It's triple digits here so even at freeway speed the heat does not dissipate.

Broken Arrow, OK | Welcome back. The only thing that changed is the new models have a chilled water cooler that wraps around your legs and literally freezes you to death, even in the desert..........
But back to reality, glad you're back. The Vic lowers, if you don't have them, are one of the solutions and very worth it.

Jasper, MO | Yep. The lowers make a big difference in keeping the heat off and help in cold and wet weather too when turned the other way. I might just be my imagination, but I really think my bike runs cooler after I got cams and a fuel controller. Lean (EPA tuned) motors run hotter than properly tuned ones. Call Lloyd, Kevin, or Rylan and ask them if a fuel controller might help cool things down.

I have found keeping it in the 'sweet' RPM range of 2700-3200 helps with the heat too. When I run at 4000 or more for any length of time it feels like there is a laser burning my right leg.

If you talking 6th gear, I want to come ride with you for a while...  as far as the comment on the heat goes, all that sensitivity training in the '80s and '90s has really made you guys soft.... I can't help but think of Burt and the world's fastest Indian having scars of accomplishment. It seems like some need to ride with a smootie in their hand... sheeeshes.... |

Was at the Harley shop today and saw these. Not sure it would take care of it, but an idea in the right direction.

Pittsburgh, PA | I dont know why on my 08-11 visions i never had this issue.. even on my sturgis trip a few weeks ago in 100F+ temps.. im 5-11" -6foot. Maybe i stretch my legs so far forward?? |

| I have ridden in some pretty hot weather for 300/400 miles both on the highway and in fairly heavy traffic and never really noticed any real heat issues..Any air cooled V-twin gets hot but my Vision has never become un-bearable or to hot to continue riding and I don't have lowers...I ridein jeans and cowboy boots and seem to be okay for the most part...Several days lately in Michigan at 95++ with high humidity a little warm , but not enough to keep off the bike....JMHO |

Ouch - one thing you might try doing is moving your feet around until you find a cool spot. I realize I may not be bothered by it because of the position of my feet when I ride. I have found spots thought that makes the heat pretty intense. |

| I wonder if the height of the rider affects the feeling of heat. I am 6'2" and do not seem to be bothered buy the heat but I work in the heat down Houston way. Maybe I am more acclimated . What is everyone's height ? |

Bolivar Missouri | I'm 5' 6" with the lower's set right on the highway i have no problems but at low in town speeds it get pretty warm on the right leg especially at a stop i do wear jeans and cowboy boots |

| If the bike has been sitting for a while your oil may have broke down a bit. If you haven't done an oil change, do it, I see a difference in heat in all my vehicles when the oil is about ready to be changed. |

The heat was blistering while wearing shorts. After I added the lowers the heat is only an issue when my feet are nearly touching the motor.
The heat that comes off the motor is not all bad. Only in July and August does it feel hot (but folding in the lowers takes care of that). The rest of the months it feels good. I don't have to carry around extra clothes in the spring and fall like I would on another bike. The heat also allows me to ride all winter. So, I don't mind the heat because it allows me to ride all year. |

california | Once you get a fuel controller and tuned your factory lean engined will run cooler. Also made a ride in 100de/f and had lowers on just opened up a little and helped a lot. |

Virginia Beach, VA | So i take it then the Lowers are a must? Been contemplating getting them, 200 and change seems a lot for 2 pieces of plastic, it's a shame no one makes the mounting brackets without having to buy the whole package.....would rather have the CYCLE OPS deflectors but am hearing you cant only buy the mounts...and you have to have them for the Cycle ops. Any other suggesstions out there? |

Albuquerque, NM | What ever happened to the "Diverter" that HMD had come up with? Still listed on his website as "patent pending". Was designed to help solve the engine heat problem. Maybe it will be out when the LED tail lights hit the market!
