Halifax, NS | OK here it goes My mother age 75 calls me and says she has an apointment for a dye test to see if they can find what is causing her chest pains.... Now she lives on Prince Edward Island and I am in Nova Scotia (190)miles away.. She shows up at my house and I take her in to the Hospital. I ask them to call me and let me know how she is doing after the tests. Later that day they call and tell me they are keeping her as she has 2 blocked arteries and they need to fix this asap. The next day they do the ballon thing to expand the blockages and they install 4 stints to keep the blockages open. Once out of the Hospital all she talks about is me taking her home on my new bike. Everyone including my wife said DONT DO IT she is to old and she will not be able to make the trip. And its to soon after having the stints put in.... So I tried to avoid the bike trip home conversation with her. After 12 days out of the Hospital there was no way to talk her out of this. I have taken her on my bikes before but for very short rides. I took her for a short ride on my new XCT and she loved it. She was very comfortable on it. Well against everyones wishes I dressed her up in my wifes leathers and we headed to PEI. I was a bit worried about this trip. What is she tired. Or got uncomfortable - considering its 190 miles.... Long run for a 75 year old just out of the Hospital. 1/2 way home I stopped at a road side rest stop and I asked her how she was doing.. She says I love it. I am good to go. I said are you sore - your back hurt anything like that. She says no its great. Most fun I have had in a long time.......... So what can I say.... I am 54 my mother is 75 and she had a great time and so did I. We stopped for lunch talked about some of the things we seen on the road. I took the link to PEI

Don't worry - be happy she wants to ride. My 'dear departed' last rode with me on my neighbour's Harley down in Florida shortly before she passed. We had to have two guys help her onto the seat behind me - but she was in Heaven! Reminded her of the many rides we had taken in our 44 years of marriage before she died.
My beautiful Co-Pilot now will be 65 when I turn 90 - and she wants me to still be riding my Vision when SHE retires. And I plan to be doing just that!

scotts valley, California | Me too, Don, only I'm only 3 years younger than Rob's mom. I plan on riding coast to coast when I'm 75. on my 08 Vision. I am temporarily out of the saddle from back surgery, but not for long. One of my two best friends got t-boned a couple of weeks ago and did not make it, but he died doing what he loved doing, riding. There is nothing like riding.

| AWESOME! that's a great story...love it!
Mom came to visit last May from France and she never rode on a motorcycle. So i offered to take her on a ride...."Absolutely" she said! 
She LOVED it and wanted to ride more, she had the biggest smiley face

I hope you are still riding at 90. There are times I wonder how long I will be riding and I am only 54 I am still crazy for 54 as I like to take my WR250R out and beat the crap out of myself evry now and then. |

Wow coast to coast damn that is amazing. You guys are realy an eye opener. I didnt think there was that many dare I say elders on bikes. I have to say it is nice to hear these comments. What's the point of sitting in a chair, saying damn my butt hurts or I could be on the back of the bike and my butt still hurts, but this sure beats sitting on the porch.
Git R Done - make another appt with her and I bet she'll start looking forward to her rides and might even motivate herself to do some strength and stretching exercises so she can enjoy the ride that much more. You'd be surprised. |

Republic of Texas | Well, my mom turned 78 a couple of months ago. I have owned my Vision for nearly a year and she is still pouting because I keep avoiding "the ride." I don't mind taking her, it is little sister that throws fits about it.

The strange part for me is that all my early years she hated me having a Bike... Said there to dangerous. I bought my son his first bike a Suk LT50 at 3 years old.... She said she would never forgive me if anything happend to her grand son. |

| I will chim in here. Back in the late 60's I had an Aunt Bessy that I would she may be once a year. She was about 600 miles away. Every time I saw her she told me you can get killed on that thing. Id' tell her I'd be cardeful. Didn' she her for 2 or 3 year's & while setting at the kitchen table talking with my cousin who she lived with, She came out of her room (which had the heater turned in the summer to stay warm) and said "Are going to give me a rideon that thing or not". I said yes and me and my cousin got her on the bike, got a helmet on her. Took her around 3 or 4 blocks & never got out of scend gear (1979 Goldwing). Her arturitis was so bad she was constintly looking down. Thought it was the greatest thing going & for weeks she told everybody she had riden a motorcycle. My guess that secretly that was on her Bucket List. 85 and all bent over. Hope I'm still going then |

Green Bay, WI United States | I would love to take my Mother for a ride........ I do not think she has ever been on a motorcycle. Might not go 190 miles but just around the circle would be good. Only one problem I live in Phillips, WI. and she lives in Tucson, AZ. Put this on my bucket list......... God Bless all our Mothers and Fathers, they are the reason we all are riding. :-) |
