I have S1 L2 with recored Atom Bomb mufflers and Lloyds intake plate and have nearly eliminated any pops with my VFC III,, it works great! Only ones I can get are fabricated by really jockying the throttle.

Got so bad the guys had me ride at the rear of the pack...Loved the bike and hated the noise......

Rick, I think you're referring to the Idle Air Control valve. This is standard on all the bikes. It controls the amount of air that is allowed to bypass the throttle plates in order to maintain the correct idle speed. Lloydz valve which I installed, further regulates the amount of air which is supposed to limit popping. The surge you feel at 1800 rpm is not a function of the valve as much as from the fuel being turned back on by the ECM. I installed Lloydz's valve in order to reduce the surge for which it did in fact help. I'm curious about the plastic screw you found. I don't see that. Thanks, Marc

Marc:

I'll try to get a picture of it and try my luck at adding it to a message. I still don't think I get my quotes in my

The grey "knob" you're seeing is actually a cap similar to a tire valve cap. Its covering up an access port to the fuel injection line. It is a fitting used to check the fuel pressure in the system. Oh well :-)

That's not your IAC Rick. The IAC is the part right below the one you show in the picture. It has an electrical plug attached to it.

I had a interesting little issue with POPPING on my 2011. well a few days ago I was getting popping that was getting worse and worse as each day went by.. Then I started to notice my idle was a little low and bouncy.. all I did to correct this issue to date was? Unplugged that IAC turned the bike on and waited for the check engine light to come on.. then I connected the IAC again and then turned the key so that you can hear the IAC. Then you turn the bike off and wait 5 second.. you do this 3 times and it makes the IAC re-learn its function.. so far 3 days now and it idle @ 1000 or slightly above and the popping is 98% gone.. all just from doing that?

I have always assumed the popping everyone talks about is on deceleration. Mine pops from time to time and I actually kinda like it. So, I've never understood all the fuss about it. If I wanted no popping and everything all smooth and shitz I would have bought a wing. A V-twin has it's own idiosyncrasies that will always be there.

Just sayin'

Arkainzeye...I think you are on to something here. I have had problems with surging, coughing, and dying. I just disconnected the IAC and started. The check engine light came on. I turned off the bike and pushed the plug in and pulled it out several times to knock off corrosion, if any. I then re-started and it ran more smoothly. I turned off and re-started a few more times and slowly turned the throttle and the rpms up a few times. Seems more smooth all around! This just might be the gremlin that has been harassing me for a few weeks. I'll report back after a while.

Note that one of my vehicles is a Jetta TDI and I have to disconnect and reconnect the MAF connector several times once or twice a year. It is as if corrosion builds up on the connector and interferes with the operation. Electrical devices often operate on very narrow volts/current/resistance and if they drop out of range they do not function properly. This was the case on my Jetta. It would run crappy. I then open and close the connector a few times and boom, everything is perfect again. Same thing used to happen on an old computer. I would have to re-seat a few of the cards on occasion and the glitchy operation would go away.

No joy. According to KX pulling the plug on the IAC until you get a CEL and plugging it back in forces the ECU into a learn mode. However if the IAC has a problem the issue will likely return, which in my case did. The issue is still a bit random but after checking and cleaning, and snugging up every thing electrical, I still have the surging at idle about 50% of the time. The good news it is not as severe usually. Next step is to go to the dealer and have him install and new one under warranty.

I will post on this thread......3 years ago my popping was really bad! I was kinda just living with it. How ever one day I took in a radio station gas give away. I always ran Shell fuel on all my bikes. However this radio station was running their fuel give away through 7-11 convince stores. I latter found out that their fuel came from Petro-Canada refinery. Long story short, as soon as I changed brands of fuel the popping disappeared. Even my co-pilot noticed the difference. I was skeptical at the time as I always believed shell had the highest requirements for their fuel. a couple times since I have had no option but to fuel up at Shell as I was in a remote area, and the popping would return almost immedi atly. I have always said start with the most obvious this tinker deeper.
