I know this might be kind of a strange request for help from abroad, but as I get ever closer to the big 50 Ive found that I need prescription eyewear. With so many options, can anyone suggest a good option for a bifocal motorcycle sunglass provider? I looked at the docs office and I was not impressed. Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give!!

If you know your prescription there are tons of options to order online. I have prescription Wiley X transition sunglasses for riding that I like a lot.

Have you considered laser surgery? It's very affordable nowadays and your sunglasses/goggles options become limitless.

Define affordable. What does a procedure like that cost and is it permanent or do you have to go back every few years? No insurance. The cost would all be out of pocket.

I have 20 pairs of off-the-shelf glasses for reading - they cost $10-$20 each. But I also have 2 pair of prescription glasses for long-distance.

I don't need any glasses for most day-to-day tasks, but for riding I have one pair of prescription sun-glasses that make my distance viewing incredibly sharp. They cost me $500 or so.
I rarely ride at night - but I do carry a pair of clear-lens prescription glasses if I need them (maybe once a year!).

So not cheap - $500 ! But I consider them a part of my $35,000 motorcycle investment.

Prescription glasses aren't cheap. I'm picking up a new pair of glasses this morning @ about $500. They're bifocals (my first) with clip on (magnetic) sunglasses and they're the bendy ones. (You can wrap them around your finger and they just spring back. Good for my job.) Now I just gotta figure out how to see through bifocals.

That's why I have 20 pairs of 'off the shelf' glasses - in every room, jacket, desks - all for 'in close/reading'. So my 2 expensive pair are solely 'long distance' for driving or tourist stuff. NO bi-focals. I can see 20/20 from 4' away to 2 blocks away ....

I use nannini googles. These are italian made leather googles that look like vintage fighter pilot googles. I think that they are cool looking but the best part is that you can get a plastic piece made for your prescription and it rests inside the google and is held in place by the frame. As your prescription changes you just need to get a new prescription piece and not replace the entire set of googles. I know alot of people do not like googles but i love them. My eyes are very sensitive to the wind due to some conditions caused by my work enviroment and they water when the wind hits them. I have tried a number of full face helmets but I always go back to the half helmet and my googles. good luck in your search.

I have a pair of Costa del Mar Rx sunglasses. They are made right here in FL and they have a LIFETIME guarantee on the frames. I'm on my second pair because my original temples dried out and the rubber by the ear pieces came off. They were probably 10 years old! I just called the company and it was no hassle... Pick out any pair they said. I paid $10 for shipping. I love good customer service. Mine actually wrap around my face almost like goggles.

I have NOT tried this company, but a buddy has. Teri prices are wonderful. This may be another option. They are from China.

Here is a link to Whitehorse Gear that sells all kinds of riding equipment and accessories for motorcycles. I have a pair of these generic bifocals that come in clear and sunglasses. They work well after you get used to using bifocals and the price isn't bad either. http://www.whitehorsegear.com/pro-rx-magnifier-glasses . I guess you will have to copy and paste it in your search area, I can't get the link to work.

I too have prescription bifocals. Have clear and also pair of polarized lenses placed in Okley's. The model name is "Gas Can". They have a wrap design and protect my eyes pretty good. I've had these over two years now. That reminds me, I need to get my eyes rechecked. Time to get my wallet out again!
