Pittsburgh, PA | I was wondering if anyone here has a photo of what console looks like withOut the gps attached. What i mean is, the Gps mount in place, but the gps not attached. Since you have to leave the mount in place at all times, or you will have holes in your console i was wondering what it looks like without the gps there. Since im guessing the gps doesnt "Lock" to the mount it would easily be stolen when going into a store or what not. So i wouldnt have it attached all the time. And i wouldnt be using a gps all the time. Heck i havent used mine yet in 2100 miles. and i have a handlebar mounted unit. |

Woodland Hills, CA | I purposely didn't get the GPS because I didn't like the way it was mounted to the dash. I don't really use the one in my car that often, so I decided against it for the Vision. Given all the space between the gauges, I am really surprised that Victory doesn't integrate the GPS into the information screen (smaller gauges, bigger screen?). Now that would be sweet! |

Jacksonville Florida | Actually the GPS unlocks and is removed in about 2 seconds and the lead just slides in the GPS. So if you are afraid someone will take, just take it with you. |

I wasnt worried just about someone taking the gps. i was more so worried how it would look when you ride and you dont have the gps attached.. I wouldnt use the gps all the time so there would be no need to have it attached all the time. I was wondering when it is not there, how does the mounting hardware LOOK when your riding or have the bike parked. I was really wondering if it was a eye sore or not. |

Baltimore, Md | Seems like a non-issue given that you aren't concerned with it being stolen and just don't always use it and are only concerned about appearance - why not just leave it there, using it or not, if you aren't concerned about it being taken? It surely looks better installed and the empty mount, while not ugly (relatively speaking) will still leave a free power wire to deal with. I'd just leave it there (turned on or not) and remove it for extended "out of sight" parked periods. |

My first post here, as I'm still undecided on purchasing a Vision. However, I was wonding if the factory Vision GPS mount (base) has a 3.5mm stereo plug for use with headphones? My BMW/Zumo 550 has this on the left side, behind a small rubber cover. One other question about the Vision GPS (Garmin 2820), I've read that it plays MP3's but it doesn't appear to have a memory card slot. Is that correct? If so, I assume the unit has a built in memory capacity but I can't find anything showing its capacity (1Gb, 2Gb, etc...). Anybody know?

i would bet you would get detailed info for your questions by going to the Garmin website. There is nothing hardware special about the vision gps vs the regular garmin ones... |

| Thanks Arkainzeye, but I've searched the Garmin site to no avail. I thought by clicking on the two motorcycle mounts listed for the 2820 I might get more details or photos regarding the headphone jack but no luck. Same goes for the memory capacity. So the questions are still out there... |

"The audio output comes from the same connector as the power input. There are no external connector pins for external audio output."
So the answer to the 3.5mm output is "no". Assuming you want the extra memory for audio files, then I wouldn't bank on getting too much on 750Mb unless you were willing to rip them at a really low bitrate (like 64 or 128). Also, FYI the one audio output that is used by the GPS is mono only (2 leads). So modding it wouldn't do much good either. Honestly, I have just bought the 2720 (branded as the "Touratech [spell?]" by Victory) on eBay and haven't gotten a chance to use it yet. I still wouldn't hesitate to say that the Zumo is going to be a better unit, hands down. What the 2720 does offer is:
-Steadfast reliability (even though it is discontinued)
-A very nice screen (viewable in direct sunlight, which I can assure you is a MUST)
-Lots of weather proof ruggedness (IPX7 rated)
-A simple no-frills interface to keep your attention on the road (I should get paid for this advert)
-Simplicity of integration with the audio/power systems on the Vision. (IF you buy the $80 kit).
Last but not least (and this is may pi$$ off some people, so I'm sure I'll hear whining about it LOL).
-Affordably priced for a motorcycle GPS unless you got ripped off by buying the Victory branded model.

| Thaks bigwill5150 for the info! Very helpful. I agree that 750 meg is low and with no headphone jack I'll just have to adapt. I sure do enjoy the Zumo on my BMW so I agree with your list of pluses for the Garmin interface and reliability. My Zumo screen is always clearly visible, even in direct sunlight. The main thin I like about the garmin motorcycle units is the fact that gas splash won't melt the screen.

Twin Cities, MN | I repurposed my Magellan Maestro 4250 with a Ram mount. I got the base with an adhesive disk and I can easily remove the GPS and upper part of the mount. (Pulls apart and the ball and socket joint) I also picked up a converter cable (BMW plug to a regular light socket) so when needed I use the standard power cord. I often will just run around on battery. Total investment was under $300. I had the GPS already and paid $250 for it at Buy.com. The Ram mount and cable ran around $50 at CycleGadgets.com

They are nice toys, but can be more of a distraction than any rider needs. Just enjoy the ride, and if you have to turn around, you get to see the view from a different direction! |

You must have $10 a night hotels in Canada.  I ain't getting lost and losing out
on my Hotel money.
Don't want to miss a meeting with paid for dinner, luncheon, scheduled ride
of a new motorcycle, etc..
There are some bad parts of towns, and I don't carry. 
Jap bikes have 5-10% speedo errors, and the Zumo set them straight.
My Zumo has a MP3 player for the Kawasaki's amplified speakers (not yet installed,
still in box)
Non motorcyclists think you have aircraft technology.
Many reasons to have a GPS.

Pitt Meadows, BC Canada | No problem Herb. I recently lived for 5 years in Orlando. And I have absolutely no memories of having seen any 'scenic drives' in Florida, and nothing at all in the Southeast aproaching what I see on my daily commute here in Vancouver. So maybe I am a bit prejudiced.
And one should NEVER take a motorcycle to an appointment - just makes no sense - and with a GPS trying to get me there - I would turf it into the bushes and head in the opposite direction.
And bad parts of towns - kind of announce themselves as that - common sense should overide any advice from a machine.
And my Vision already says I have aircraft technology - hell - SPACESHIP technology. I don't need any more gawking from wannahave's.
I guess I just balk at the idea of some damned machine telling me what to do..... I would rather be lost. <grin>

That's why we have choices, people are as different from one to another as the night is from day, and each person has different needs. I personally have a great need for a GPS on mine because I use it for business and need to be able to get to business and residential addresses, this makes it a very dependable tool, and not a toy at all for me. and as far as being a distraction I have to disagree with you again, the most important time of using the GPS for me is when I get close to my destination, I have done this both ways and I can assure you it is much less of a distraction and safer for that matter, to have my Garmin 2720 call out directions to me through my speakers as I approach the exit ramp I need, then it is for me to be looking around trying to find the place I'm supposed to stop at, and doing last minute lane changes and just generally NOT paying attention to traffic while I look around lost. |

Decatur, GA | I have a Zumo and use to calculate the time of my arrival (ETA) so I can judge how long it will take to get where I am going. And before you ask, no, I am not in a hurry but sometime I am meeting up with others.
