Any feedback on the Utopia back rest on the Vision with heated seats? I originally got the Ness seat, thinking it was heated, but ... . It was a comfy ride, but need the heat in Michigan! Anyway, I was wondering if anyone installed the Utopia back rest...

There have been a lot of comments on the utopia backrest, do a search for utopia, i dont think there were any bad comments with the possible exception about being nervous of cutting into the seat, i love mine and the communication with them is first class

Once you get past that instant where you intentionally cut the seat material, you will never look back! I went from high anxiety the moment before cutting the seat material to euphoria in less than 5 minutes after completing the cut, and having the backrest mounting complete. It is by far, the BEST accessory I have added to my Vision. Bob and all the people at Utopia are great to work with. Great customer service, and the backrest material matches the seat material so well, I've had many surprised looks when I tell admirers that it is NOT a factory backrest. Go to www.utpr.com and you WON't regret it!

I also have the Utopia on my bike.  The install is, as mentioned, a little unnerving cutting the seat.  It's really a piece of cake to install!  They really are a 'factory look' and very comfy!

Love mine also...and yep that first cut is a little, well heck it was a brand new seat and all. The best part for me is that while your riding you can reach back turn the screw and readjust the position. On long rides its almost like changing out your seat to a different one. Oh and i found my filet knife to work better than the serrated one i had.

Does the back rest get in the way of a passenger's comfort?

I too have the Utopia back rest, and have been using it for the last 3 months, and wouldn't ride without it. It works perfectly with the heated seats, is fully adjustable, folds forward for easy on and off of the passenger, and is really well made. My SO says its more comfortable than the Harley back I have on my Road King (which has become a great piece of sculpture in my garage). Also, I got the removable option so if I want to ride without it, it just pulls right out.

And one more thing, in addition to being really well made, it matches the seat so well you would think it came from the factory.

As has already been said, the most difficult part of the install is gathering the strength to cut the seat. But once you get over that, you will be glad you did.

Utopia back rest: Highly Recommended!

Flatsix, the wind deflectors that you have on, are they the adhesive mounted ones or the screwed in ones? I like the looks of yours. I am thinking of getting them. I would prefer the screw mounted ones, in theory. I am scared of depending on adhesive on a pice that costs that much, and is directly in that much wind.

The utopia seat is excellent. As so many others state, you will not regret having it.

You mention cutting the seat. What does the kit use to finish off where you make the slit? What keeps the slit from opening any wider, and what keeps water/moisture out, or am I concerned over nothing?

Hi GAgirlTrixie,

They are the adhesive wind deflectors.  I installed them according to the directions and have had no problems.  As a matter of fact, shortly after installation I left for Sturgis.  The speed limit across North Dakota is 75 and I usually lock in at +5.  We were also heading directly into the wind which was blowing between 35 - 40 mph.  They got a real test and happy to say no failures.  That being said, my wife was moving some stuff around in the garage a couple weeks ago and knocked one of them pretty hard...the deflector itself broke leaving the mounting and the hardware in fine shape.  Now...I just hope Victory will be able to sell me one as I don't need a whole set.  They really are a functional accessory that I'm happy I spend the money for.  Great when it's cold and Great when it's hot.

Good Luck!

Ditto what Flatsix said. The 3M tape that Victory now uses on these will not come off. I have over 18,000 miles on mine and have rode for miles at 110 mph plus in winds of up to 35 to 40 mph and in heat of up to 119 degrees in death valley and they worked perfect. They are a must in heat or cold.

The Backrest comes with a plastic piece with sticky on one side. You place this where the directions tell you to and then make the slit inside of this plastic piece. I was concerned also but it does not seem to be bad. I have ridden in pretty heavy rain with and without a passenger and have then checked and no water gets in. The bottom of the backrest covers the cut pretty well. I imagine that if left outside in a real heavy down pour some water might get in but again the backrest covers my cut pretty well. Best addition i have made to the bike yet.
