My wife feels cramped by the backrest when she rides with me. I am going to undo the bolts that hold the backrest in place and then just put it into the slot when I ride single. On my previous bike I had a Mustang seat and a backrest that just slid into the slot as it was designed that way. I hope that this is not a problem with the Utopia but does anyone have it set up this way or do you have to have the bolts hold it in place?

Joker go to the Utopia website and order the quick out hardware. Push in/on give it a tug and off it comes.

for anyone that purchased that quick off part for the utopia backrest. can you please share how the install of that was? did you have to REdrill anything? does anything stick out of the padding or can you feel it at all when you sit down? im just trying to cover all the bases before i spend even more money on this backrest. i think i want the quick out because.... I never ride anyone on the back. but i would like to and i cant see how a person of average size can sit on the passenger seat With tht back rest on there! i could be wrong... but..

It was no problem to take off the solid slot and install the quick release since you have done it before. The backrest actually sits a little forward of the solid slot and I don't get as much grief leaving the Utopia on with her on the back as before. We are going on a weekend trip to Gatlinburg this weekend and I can let you know how we do after a long trip on Monday.

I'm waiting to order the Utopia backrest with quick release until I read some reviews. Hey Joker, you there?

I talked it over with my wife and WE like the quick release much better. It just gives you another option. On the trip to Gatlinburg I rode up and back with the backrest in and while around town on Saturday I took it off. We rode the Dragon going up and the Skyway coming back and even with the backrest screwed to where it was a little forward to give her some more room it felt great to me. As a side note we rode from Gatlinburg on 441 South and took the first right to Cades Cove which turned out to be about 20 miles or so of 35 mph on a road adjacent to flowing water and it was absloutly incredible!!! Weather was in the low 80's and full sun with a breeze and low humidity and that made it one of the top 5 rides ever. Also, don't ride the 11 mile loop when you get to Cades Cove as it is 10 mph or less and while the clutch made it fine I got some shoulder strain as apparently I am not in as good of shape as I look...

Mine is due to my step on or around the 20th. Good thing...I need it for a trip on the 24th.

NOW...you all have me thinking about the quick release. Hmm...more $$$... DAMN!

Ive had my backrest on since June of 08 and find it very uncomfortable to ride without it. I love this thing and being able to change position while riding. They did not have the quick out option when i got mine but lets face it, its just one bolt and a nut and it comes right off. Ladies that ride with me say they cannot even feel the mount so it works for me. I just really try to find ones that fit......

Last year I put a pull pin instead of the bolt on my Utopia backrest so I can have it off in 2 seconds. Cost a couple bucks at hardware store.
