It was cold here in central Va thie morning and had a heavy threat of rain for the afternoon. I reasoned with myself knowing it would be a "bad riding day" so it was a "drive the Jeep to work day". But none the less I got to see what I would have missed if I had rode the bike today.

Pretty much it was a typical day except I was running about hour late so traffic was a little different. It was sort of surreal as I traveled along.

  • I missed getting run over by the State vehicle who didn't check looking over in the lane before moving into mine.
  • I missed getting cut off by the aggressive driver that insisted on not being at the end of the line, even though I was the last vehicle, just HAD to cut me off going to the exit.
  • I also missed not allowing yet another driver that tried the same thing but I wouldn't allow the room to move over, I think they missed their exit instead of falling in behind me. I figured this that when the rushed up passed me with turn signal on and I wouldn't give, maybe they were just trying to aggrevate me, who knows.
  • I would have missed the guy that pulled up beside me and said "That is one slick looking bike."
  • I missed folks riding beside me to check out the bike.

Yeah, if I didn't ride, I would have missed all those things. What was I thinking when I even consider driving my Jeep today because of little bad weather? By the way, though the weather readings from the internet said 25 degrees, the Bentley read 32, meaning it was 30 if you throw in the Vision's Kentucky windage factor on the thermometer. And the heavy threat of rain has only been sprinkles here in my neck of the woods. Like my wife said when I told her I thought about driving the Jeep today, she would have thought something was wrong with me. All is well in my world as it was a great ride to and fro work.

varyder, I agree, how you miss the experience in not riding to work. The earlier I go to work , the less stress on the ride. The later the ride, the more of what your expressing. But what I don't understand is the site is not tracking you post number.......you've gone over the edge,

VT, I turned back on my post count, I turn off sometimes just to let it rest, it overheats sometimes and I don't want to be the one that makes the site burn up.

If you read my post through you'll notice I did ride in. The funny thing is out of all the other mornings that I've wrestled with whether I should ride for one reason or another, and gave up the fight and rode anyways, I really wasn't going to ride. But the song the Weight and the line "Take the load off Annie" kept running through my head and I had to do the ride.

If I didnt ride to work everyday, I would have to leave an hour earlier (already takes an hour). I would miss sitting behind the person that thinks, if a few car lengths following distance is safe, 1/4 mi. must be safer. Or, the person in the SUV that has to slow down for every bump or pothole in the road (doesn't grasp the concept of the "S" in SUV) wouldnt want to break any of that "heavyduty" stuff, it's expensive to replace if it breaks!
Actually, riding is the only thing that keeps me going to work. It's that last turn onto the lot that's the hardest part. Bike want to keep on going.
