Subject: Recomendation on pull backs

Rockwall, TX United States
I was able to get out on a trip with 4) 6-7 hours days last week. By day three, the back was starting to complain.  I am ordering a backrest but, need to extend the bars another 2".  Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Ma.
Ness has a 2" Forward Bar. Available through your dealer or Ness directly.

Good Luck,

Gary

Thanks,

The standard setup has me leaning slightly forward.  I hadn't noticed it on weekend trips but, after 3) 7 hour days in a slumped position, my back started to talk to me. I was only able to get into a comfy upper body posture when I fully extended my stubby arms.  By day 4, I was rocking back and forth to compensate for one body part or the other.  I would like to move the grips back (towards the rear of the bike) by 2-3", add a backrest and try it again.

I"m in the same boat. On longer rides start to have pain in the middle of back since I have to lean forward for the bars. I've always had reduced reach/beach bars on my other bikes. Hopefully Victory will come out with a reduced reach bar in the future. A backrest will probably help with your situation too. Good luck.

Back rest helped me and the Corbin seat with backrest was even better but if you find bar 2" farther back post source here as I need them too. Archie

Santa Rosa V-Twin is working on 2" pullback bars for the Vision. They will be the only pull backs I'm aware of for the Vision. I believe they are doing a slight re-design do to the fact that the first one they made would not clear a GPS mounted on the console. They will also probably require lengthening of the wiring which goes to the bar controls. Pity Victory didn't anticipate the need. I've been waiting also; I could use 2-3" less reach ans abit higher.

Checked with Mike at Santa Rosa.  He said they are thinking about taking another stab at it within the next week or two <maybe>.  non-committal on an approximate completion date as well.  He did say they will post it on their website and VMC.  Got the feeling it is not a high priority item for them so it won't be ready any time soon.

Me too. I would like the bars to come back a bit. Even a inch would help, two would be better. I wonder how far back we can go without needing new wires and hoses? Could wiring extenders (plug and play) be made up and offered with the new bars?

Kit,

I can tell you that I am truly in the same situation. However, I did several very long rides lately that made my back complain only if I didn't have a backrest. I don't own a utopia (yet) but plan to order one after my next paycheck.

What did I do? On these trips I was solo. So, I packed a bag with my clothes and such and put it on the pillion seat and added my pillow (I always take my own pillow on trips ). I was pushed forward the 2 inches I needed and had a nice backrest for the trip. This helped out and made me realize that a utopia is in order and I could most likely fore go the pull backs.

Just a thought and my humble opinion!

Great minds think alike (or is it necessity is the mother of invention).  I did the same thing with my day pack.  It would support the middle of my back but to really get it to work, I had to kick my backside forward just far enough to keep the lower back out of the back of the saddle and off the padding.  I guess I could have filled the gap with something but it didn't occur to me at the time.

I E-mailed Santa Rosa V-Twin yesterday to ask about their plans for Vision Pull Backs. Reply Follows;

Mike- I will be working on these next week, they will be approx 2" pulled
back and they will be available in probably 6-weeks,

The Utopia backrest will probably solve your problem. I had one on the Vision that was rear-ended and I had a 9200 mile trip last summer without any problems. The Uthopia is adjustable forward to give you the extra reach. Around $220 from Utopia.com.

I didn't ask about the cost as I figured it is a bit early in the process for him to set a price. As far as handlebars go, the design and consequent production process of these appears that it would be significantly more complex than traditional bars, Santa Rosa seems to value high quality, and there would be a relatively small demand, so I'm guessing they will not be cheap,

I agree, I have the Utopia backrest, and that can provide you up to 5 1/2 inches of forward positioning. The cost is about $230. And if you have never used a backrest you will be pleasantly surprised at the added level of comfort.

I have a Utopia backrest, in fact I was the first one to have one on a Vision, and it is great. That not withstanding, I could still use the pullbacks. That might just be me because in addition to a worn out lower back I have tendonitis/bursitis in both rotator cuffs in my shoulders. I think having both, in my case at least, would be as close as possible to the ideal situation. Orange soda?
