If the ride doesn't outweigh your fear of comments, then don't buy the bike.

You'll never be happy.

I love my Vision.

Don't you think that everyone that rides was smitten enough to buy the motorcycle that they ride. I also admire just about every type of motorcycle ever made. I am not shy when meeting other riders and usually say something nice about what they ride and try to learn why they they like it. What have they changed from the stock bike off of the showroom floor. How did the change work out for them?

In taking this approach, I have learned a great deal about the riders that I meet and the equipment that they choose to ride. Only once did I receive a mild off color comment about the Vision. So be it. The Vision is not for everyone.

My favorite recurring theme I hear is something about the "Jetson's" cartoon in conversations. My counter to this is turn on the key to ACC, change the source to the iPod and punch the radio button for "10" on the dash. It then plays the "Jetson's" opening theme song.

I decided not to fight it but to own it! By the way, if you want to bring a smile to faces of the people checking out the Vision, play the Jetson's theme while talking about it.

Ride Safe!

After 16 months of ownership, I would say the WOWs are way more than crap. This is a very good motorcycle. If you read the forums on this site, you will know what the issues maybe, and then if you do get one, you will be informed. But, if you can't take the fact that your motorcycle is really different, and someone may say something bad about it, then I'd look elsewhere.

I'm right with you Vision Tex. What really mattes is that I LOVE the looks of the Vision. Comments have been very positive and on the occassional Jetsons jab....I respond with "Boy I love the looks." Really!

Liking how my bike looks and rating how it rides is of dual importance. I would not buy a bike that I didn't think was visually appealling no matter how nice it rides. Best of luck!

the comments I have received are very positive, however at a local hangout and older harley boy stared at my vision for quite some time, he looked up at me and said(yours) I replied yes, he said(man that things ugly) I replied, do you ride? he said yes, I replied again, well, at least my bikes not the ugliest thing on two wheels, I can still hear everyone laughing....

I have been called Buck Rodgers, George Jetson, Vog, you get the point as I never cared what other people thought. The sad thing bout it is that the ones that make the negative remarks are usally the ones that put very few miles on there machines. I bought it for me not to be cool to others. Jst ride and have fun.
17,500 miles in the last 11 months and see no sign of letting up now

Forget about the looks of the bike for a moment. Take a ride and feel the well balanced machine. Enjoy the comfort, let all of your worries fade away because the Vision offers the best ride experience out there. Now that you have had the ride take a good look at the bike.
Like it? Buy it... If you are so worried about the appearance buy a HD or a BMW or Honda. I ride for the pure enjoyment of the ride and could care less about what others think. Now with that said, so far I have not had a negative comment about the bike. Most people are fascinated with the design and original look. For those that don't like it well... that is just another form of Vision Envy!

Al Paccino, why do you care what others think? I am a Member of a well known motorcycle Club, and knew some of the others would have a few comments, yet, after I test rode the Vision and honestly evaluated it, I decided that if anyone did not like my choice they could stuff themselves. As a former harley man I can say that there are no harley's that even come close to ride quality, styling, or functional features.
The great thing about the bike is the fact it is so different from anything else on the road.
if anybody has made any unwanted or derogatory comments, all i heard them say was blah, blah,Victory Vision, blah, blah.
I am very happy with the bike and in the end it's all about TEAM KORNBREAD!!!!

I have never had a bad comment about the Vision. I have a harder time explaining that Victory is indeed the manufacturer to some Gold Wing Riders who seem to have never heard of them.

Thank you for your feedback. It was just a question I have had. In defence of my question, If my only criteria were looks, Of course I wouldnt have owned any of my last 3 bikes not counting my FJR which were, 1800 Goldwing, Kawasaki Voyager, preceeded by a Concours.
I did get a kick outa the Jetson theme song on the ipod. If I get one I will do that as well!

Someone who has enough dough to buy a $23,000 motorcycle in the midst of a world wide economic meltdown and is concerned about what people will think of the purchase based on image consciousness should probably pass on the Vision, the Harley and the GoldWing.

My suggestion is that you scrape together an additional 25k and buy a Vincent.

You will be the envy of every biker you meet. Ego problem solved, at least temporarily.

Is it cool? Hell yeah!

Would I kill for one? Just tell me whom.

Would I ride it across country? Not on a bet.

Would I commute on it? Only if I thought that I had less than 6 weeks to live.

But thats not the point; the point is that while there are much better motorcycles (the Vision being one), few have the cache of a Vincent Black Shadow.

So if image truly is your thing, then quit screwing around, and get a machine that exudes image. Besides there have to be a lot of collectors looking to off-load a few toys to keep the kids in college; its probably be the best time in the last 20 years to pick one up.

The first time old man Lucas rears his ugly head in BFE , you may find it necessary to re-evaluate the value of image over substance but hell thats part of the cache.

Good luck with your decision.

I loved the Vision from the start. There are some designs that have flow and look correct from any angle and some that do not. The Vision does. In fact the Electra Glide doesas do most Harleys. I can't say this about all Victorys (IMO) but they are getting better in the design dept. I have to hand my hat to Victory to have the balls to allow a form follows function design to marketed. Ride one and it will reveal itself.

I have owned mine since January and this thing has literally cause me to be late for events. I toom a trip from Texas to Georgia a couple months ago and I ended up running about 6 hours behind schedule both ways because I had scores of lookers/talkers at every gas stop.

I've had 2 rude comments in the year I've owned mine and I shut hem up real quick. Two wannabe ruff and tumble HD riders (could have been any brand though) that made the comment they wouldn't be caught dead on that ugly bike. My reply was very simple "yep its ugly, but you hop on your bike, I'll get on mine and we'll go for a ride and see who has to get off theirs first."
It is a love it or hate it first impression bike. The more you look at it the more it grows on you. The more you ride it the more you realize just how good it really is so the looks don't matter.

This whole discussion is pointless.
Anyone who disses' a Vision has no taste or knowledge - who cares what those people think?
I like it. Everyone who has commented to me likes it. My co-pilot likes it. It gets more stares, gapes, raves than anything I have ridden or been close to. If anything - it could be uglier so I wouldn't have to spend so much time with people telling me how great it looks.

Yikes .... leave it alone.

I am seriously considering the vision as I really like how it rides. I am concerned as to how much crap I will have to take for its appearance...
What is the ratio of wow good vs wow ugly comments you experience?

To be honest, alpachino, you'll get very few, if any, negative comments. The vast majority of the folks who are negative will not say anything, at least not to your face where you can rebutt them. The only time you'll really see a lot of derogatory remarks is on the internet, where people can hide behind the anonymity of an online pseudonym and feel free to spew whatever brain-dead garbage they want without it being traced back to them personally.

I've only had one person at a poker run who said anything even remotely negative. Several Harley riders walked up to me after I had parked and were checking out the bike. Most of the guys were pretty cool and just wanted to know about it, but one guy piped up with something along the lines of, "What the hell ever possessed you to buy this thing??" After I got clarification from him as to what exactly he meant I proceded to expound upon all the fantastic qualities of Victory in general, and the Vision specifically, I ended with "and stock, this baby will run circles around your Ultra with the Stage 2." The guy snorted and said,"I didn't buy it go fast." I ended the conversation by replying, "I'd say the same thing, too, if I had bought your bike," and walked off to find a beer while his buddies laughed at him.

Just remember, al, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. No matter what you buy, some are going to think it looks great and some are going to think it's ugly. I've got a buddy that has three HDs, two he rides and one he takes to shows. The show bike has all kinds of leather-wrapped crap and chrome and tons of fringe on everything: saddle bags, floorboards, hand grips, you name it. The bike has won several awards. I think it's the ugliest damn thing on two wheels; to my buddy, it's the acme of beauty and the apple of his eye. *shrug* To each his own.

It is my opinion that a lot of people are stuck on the Harley name. They are sold on slick marketing and the mystic that you are a rebel if you ride a Harley. I don't understand how much of a rebel you can be if every other bike on the road is a Harley. My friend spent $22,000 on a Softail something or other and gets mad when people check out my Vision and not his bike.

I was at a work meeting recently with my peers who are quite a bit older that I am. As I set up my Powerpoint, My Arlen Ness Vision wallpaper was projected on the screen and I got a few moans from several old men Harley riders in the room. I told them that I owned a Harley once but was tired of it not starting all the time. This was met with a few jeers but quite a few chuckles.

The point is that Victory makes a superior product. From the Kingpin, Vegas, Hammer or Vision, The bikes are faster, more reliable and better looking than anything else on the road. Hold your head up high and remember to use all your fingers when waving back.

How refreshing it was to be around hoards of Harley Riders, Wing Rider, BMW riders and not talk about whose bike was better. David White and myself was the only two that had our Vision there and another rider that I never got to talk to.

I had several folks talk about the Vision, and Victory. One "Harley" guy was talking about getting a Vision but didn't know where to go to look at them. I told him how to get to the dealer. A couple of other people came by and gave the drill "tell me about it, does it have...." and we talked. Certainly there were zingers here and there about the different bikes and the folks who ride them, but nobody that I heard was talking about who's bike was better or worse.

I think it was the folks that were there was there to ride, not to show. It was a great times just sharing about other rides and so on. The other thing, it wasn't about who was the best, fastest, etc, but it was about the finish and be safe. I might have only talked to about 10 people, and rode with one, but I can say I woke up this morning with 423+ friends and they all ride motorcycles.

Even after riding all day, I'm ready to ride again but my leathers are still soaked.
