To answer VisionTex's question, why supermax. Well my pulley coating is chipping and needs to be replaced. My understanding to their claim is that it never has to be replaced once it is done. My dealer says they have them done all the time. Here's the link http://www.supermax.net

Problem with these is that they can not handle the torque of a Vic motor. I have a friend, and customer who had one on his Hammer 107HP-112FtLb. It lasted about 6 months before coming apart; damaging his belt, and swing arm. That said Supermax was totaly stand up, and paid for the damage without a fuss. They were however not interested in trying again. So if you plan on adding cams etc; you may want to think twice

I don't know what the cost trade off will be, but the original pulley seems to need to be replaced at every belt replacement because of the chipping. I don't know about the supermax, but I'm willing to give it a try. The only reason I'm changing the belt at 45k is because I'm pulling the exhaust and it is one of those kind of things I'd do while I'm there. I'd almost wouldn't worry about the pulley at all, and that certainly is an option, as the coating is very thin, but noticable. I don't know what affect that would have toward a new belt so it has nothing to do with athestics.

As far as the torque and so on, I ride aggressive enough for me and I don't think I would rip apart my supermax, but it is concerning that if they claim indefinite, then it may not be good enough if a little torque tears them up. That means to me that it is not indefinite and I'd have to replace it in another 100k or more, so what would be the point.

I had forgotten about the pulley/noise issue. I have been lucky. I had a chirp when the bike was cold at about 10K and it resolved itself. Thursday the bike goes in for new rubber at 15K. Since both wheels will be off I'm having them sent out for black powder coat. I decided to have the rear pully and the belt guard done too. I wonder if I'm asking for trouble. I'd love a chrome aftermarker pully, but $500...

When I talked to Phil on the phone about sending in my pulley (the second call I made), he started telling me that he didn't even know if it was a real possibility that he could do the Vision pulleys. If you have a pulley with 72 teeth, then you'd be in luck. The Vision has 70 teeth. I counted them 3 times thoroghly marking them as I did so. I guess that means I'm SOL. Also there is an issue with the floor of the pulley being too shallow for him to grind the teeth off and still have enough material for him to attach the new overlay. Give it a try and see what he can do. My feeling is that he was backing out when it came to actual "go" time. I like what he has to offer but I don't think he's actually able to do a Vision. I'm going to try and hang on to the old pulley when I get my new warrantied one sent to me. I'll give him a call again and see if I can send it in for him to take a closer look at. One thing about Phil is that he knows his pulleys. If he can't overlay it then maybe I pay him to take a look and identify the problem with the old ones so we can build up some awareness to cram down Victory's throat. Maybe we can get them to admit the problems with the pulleys. I doubt it but I wanna try...

43K+ at the moment. Bigwill response also is making me think on sending it off as I don't like down time. It will take about a week, which is all I wanted it down for when I did the tires and pull the exhaust. Supermax has done the other Vic's but I don't know if I'd be the first Vision to attempt or do. Sometimes sheeping is good as things are interchangable, or more so than being different. This would be the only downside to a Vision as it is a well worth trade-off. I'll asses my pulley and determine if I want to use the "chipped" one or not, depends on actual teeth wear. I'm sure there would be a host of folks that would say don't do it, but my understanding is that it would be about $200+ for the pulley and about $300.00+ for the belt, so that's $600 at every belt change plus tires at the same time. Sounds like I got to start my own parts warehouse when the stuff is on sale.

About $400 for the pulley work W/ S&H. For another $170, Fresno Chrome will plate it for you after he does the grinding (if he can do the pulley). They are supposed to do quality work and the way I see it, it's already gonna be $500 for a Polaris OEM chrome pulley. Just my $.02. IF you're gonna go with chrome eventually, he needs to have it done after milling off teeth (because if chipping) and before he overlays the sprocket. Better get back to work, this RSS is gonna get me in a bind...

My dealer says they have them. I'm thinking maybe the pulley just needs to be polished a little to remove the any left over coating?

Wow, now I see the problem with my pulley. If I showed you a picture of it, you'd see that the whole thing has NO coating of any type left on the pulley... The entire thing looks like it's polished metal with pitts in it. Keep us posted on what you decide with Powermax and if Phil can help us out. I'd still be willing to pay to have him do mine if he'll do it after they send me the warranty pulley.

Replaced my belt at 31K due to chipping of belt. Every 14th tooth had a small chip in it. when belt was removed a small pebble was stuck on rear pulley and caused the chip. I kept the belt and would reuse it in emergency. Belt lists for about $290.
Both rear pulley and front sprocket were 100% fine... if pulley or sprocket are bad, there is a good chance the belt was too tight, too loose or off center!!
